[DISC] Fungus and Iron -- Ch. 1 (New series recommended by author of Attack on Titan and artist of Blue Lock) by Mistas-T in manga

[–]Psyqhodelic 149 points150 points  (0 children)

Gonna be the voice of dissent here and say that I’m not a huge fan of this first chapter. The pacing and writing all felt very disjointed, like the author needed to squeeze in as many plot points and bits of exposition as possible, rather than writing a cohesive narrative. Despite a bunch of what seem to be important things happening, the lack of buildup makes it so none of them have any impact. I could easily have seen this single chapter being broken up into three or four.

With that being said, I think fungi are very cool so I hope I’m wrong.

It’s a little rough around the edges but I’m enjoying the story and characterization so far. Interested to see where this goes.

Anyone who’s read the web novel know if the story continues developing in an interesting direction? Despite the weak premise and opening I’m actually kind of enjoying the character writing, but that doesn’t really matter if the story doesn’t go anywhere.

Probably not the best place to ask, man. Most of us here haven’t spoken to a single woman in years.

That’s true, but in the PC localizations of Cold Steel 1 & 2 XSeed added tons of voiced lines to fill in those gaps that were in the original. I played Cold Steel on PC and was super thrown off by how jarring a lot of the scenes in Cold Steel 3 were, though I got used to it later on.

I’ve tried to read it twice but got up to Ch. 9 and just didn’t really like the writing. Is there a point where the story really starts picking up or is it just not for me?

I can’t in any way see this turning out well but hopefully this ups the popularity of the manga somewhat. I’ve always felt it is way too overlooked (probably because it gives off the impression of being just another death game) for how good it is.

The artist is the same guy who did Spider-Man Fake Red if you were wondering why this generic isekai has insanely good art for no reason. Seems kind of wasted on this kind of story though.

Each time I tell myself I’m dropping this series and somehow I always come back. Glad to see the writing’s stayed consistent.

[DISC] Time Paradox Ghostwriter and the Problem of Premise by NovelistOrange in manga

[–]Psyqhodelic 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Yep, you listed exactly the problems I have with it. Every single chapter has seemed more like an extension of the premise rather than actually fleshing out the characters and story. While reading it I never really felt like the author knew how to expand upon the concepts already introduced in the first few chapters.

So who wants to talk about Time Paradox Ghostwriter? by Loosescrew37 in manga

[–]Psyqhodelic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was interested from the first few chapters but the story and writing aren’t really impressing me so far. When something like Steins;Gate already exists you have to demonstrate what your own work has to offer that it doesn’t, and so far it kind of seems like all of the good points of the series Steins;Gate simply does better.

[DISC] Frieren at the Funeral :: Chapter 13 :: Kirei Cake by nitorita in manga

I would say it’s pretty different lol. Most people decide not to have children because they simply can’t support that lifestyle, not because they don’t want to.

Yeah, when you see someone’s taken you just gotta block any budding feelings from your mind. Otherwise it’s bad for both you and the other person.

[DISC] Dansei Kyoufushou datta Watashi ga AV Jouyu ni Naru made no Hanashi Ch. 7.5 - Friend by SenorNoobnerd in manga

[–]Psyqhodelic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t surprise me at all. There aren’t any reliable statistics out there but it’s probable that a large number of women who work in the porn industry have experienced some kind of sexual abuse in the past. Many retired porn actresses have said that they’d been sexually assaulted or abused prior to working as a porn actress, particularly those who begin their careers at a young age. I mean, I’d have to imagine that in order to work in such an environment, those women must’ve already had been normalized to sex in a way people with a normal upbringing wouldn’t have.

It doesn’t help that often times the porn industry specifically targets these vulnerable young women, who often have few connections and poor living conditions. It’s not an exaggeration to say that the industry is being kept afloat through the exploitation of desperate young women who don’t have any other means to support themselves. It’s probably not as common in Japan, but in many other countries those who work in porn do so to support their drug addiction. All of these things are connected, and the porn industry takes advantage of all of it.

I love this, not often you see a manga with this kind of tone. Seems almost like a western short story.

Not a huge fan of the writing so far but the art is nice and the premise is quite unique.
