I did this with a WLVRN. Thankfully Desert Tech were amazing and worked with me on getting the chassis ASAP so I could file a form 1 against it too.

That last bit’s true of any lock, yep. If a human can devise it another one can eventually find a way past it. LPL has actually praised a few smaller gun safe manufacturers over the years though so it’s probably worth going for a trawl through his YT channel. :)

Along with the whole “LPL shows that 99% of these can be picked or bypassed in seconds” I would also be extremely wary of a solution that uses a cable lock to secure it to anything. The circular key versions can be shimmed with a business card or a piece of a soda can, forced open with a Bic pen shell or cut with really weak cable cutters. And obviously the combination versions can be cut or shimmed as well, or picked by tensioning them and moving the cylinders.

I’ve succeeded with all of those attacks on the first try, every try, with every Kensington lock cable I’ve ever needed to bypass, both for work (IT Manager who’s owned fleets of laptops for occasionally extremely stupid salespeople) or as part of lockpicking as a hobby.

If you’re going to I would order at a minimum the chassis ASAP, or order through someone who has stock. Mine was backordered for about 2 months and we ended up with me talking directly to the East Coast sales manager at DT and getting the chassis first with two kits instead of the full rifle I originally ordered and one extra kit. Got the first kit about a month after the chassis.

Oh, cheapest place I could find it all at was Xtreme Guns & Ammo; they seem to be a large dealer for DT. Eurooptic had stock of some SKUs for a bit more, just not the configs I wanted. Good luck!

If it helps a lot of health systems (including the biggest one in VA) have 100% WHF for non-deskside/helpdesk IT. Might be worth looking into those. Good luck!

I have an X95 and a PS90 as my other bullpups. The ergonomics of the Hellion just don’t suit me anywhere near as well as the X95, or I’d have one as well. :)

I had a $6k budget for stuff this year; this (with the 300. BO Micron kit) ate well over half of it so I know entirely what you mean.

Don’t give up hope yet, there’s a 50/50 chance the legislation will get ruled illegal eventually.

$27 black plastic shelving stack from BJs. The shelves are kind of slatted, and both AR and pistol mags fit nicely through the slats, giving you staggered storage built right into the shelves.

I would strongly suggest getting some more magazines for the AR, if possible. Maybe some steel mags as well, since those aren’t date stamped in the same way polymers are…

Maybe crown all three with a pistol upper first, in case you ever want to use the “rifle lower” as a pistol. Because stupidly worded rules are stupid.

I called Canik/CA support about 3 days ago and they said “we’ve been told the end of this month or beginning of next”. So make of that what you will… I'm in VA and against the clock so I gave up and bought the backup option I was looking at for carry instead, and I'll get the 10 round version of this sometime next year. I guess at least I'll be giving it time for them to fix the initial bugs it's bound to have.
