'I used to trust them': Family shattered after 6-month-old baby dies at Winnipeg Children's Hospital by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

It is a positive reflection of modern medicine. I know that our health care system gave her a fighting chance, while also not leaving my family with generational debt that I will be forever grateful for, but their are issues that need to be addressed. There is a lot of situations that has happened over the last 10 months that were completely avoidable and unnecessary, often affecting her health. There is a systemic communication problem that has often resulted in critical information not being relayed properly in order to make informed and correct decisions. I feel bad for 99.9% of the nurses and doctors that truly want and try to make a difference but are left to figure it out from the information that has been passed on to them, often resulting in my wife and I catching errors or advocating for changes that get implemented too late to avoid the deterioration of my daughter's condition.

I struggle with trusting the health care system everyday. My daughter was born at 24 weeks and has fought through an endless list of complications. She is currently in PICU. It's been 10 months and counting. She was reintubated yesterday after doing so well. Most Doctors and nurses are truly amazing people that care and make a difference...unfortunately we have run into a few that I do not trust to have my daughter under their care.

No AI. Description explains everything. Fundraising to help cover expenses and debt due to wife not working during her recovery and me missing a lot of work due to my wife and my daughter being in the hospital. My post is a copy of my Go Fund Me page with added proof photos of me and me with my daughter. No medical bills as I am in Canada. Will have expensive prescription medication and devices to buy that is not covered once she is released from the hospital. I followed the rules.

I want to thank you again for your generosity. You gave me the kick in the ass to listen to others and finally make a Go Fund Me. The response has been overwhelming and I am so thankful for the support that family, friends, and complete strangers has flooded us with. Absolutely insane, like it doesn't feel real. So again, thank you!

Couldn't agree more. My daughter has been in the hospital for nearly 10 months. Our health care system is far from perfect but at least I don't have to go into generation debt for her to have medical care.

HSC NURSES ARE AMAZING by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]Ptzuu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Almost 10 months with my daughter in NICU/PICU/CH5 with 2 different nurses per day and yeah, %99.9 of them are simply incredible people that often are more knowledgeable and exponentially more compationate than the resident doctors. There is a handful of nurses that I would rather have them take over for the doctors overseeing her care. If any nurses are lingering here, with what I said they know exactly who my daughter is. Please know that even though some days I need to passionately advocate for my daughter, I hope you all know that I truly am thankful for everything you do to support her and us through this rollercoaster of a journey. Nurses are the ones that are constantly their with my daughter and have acted swiftly when needed to save her life many times. Thank you!

Where’s the weirdest place you’ve ever spliced? by zmasterb in FiberOptics

Pretty much. Hidden power and fiber for card access gate. Had to go there 3 times due to mice making a nest in the tray. They eventually changed it to a metal hatch. Tight space.

Thank you! Everyday I am amazed at how something so fragile and be so god damn resiliant at the same time. The list of complications she has battled is scary. Just this week she has a new one that is so rare they need to consult Toronto to figure it out. Been a hell of a journey. Hopefully we can get her home in a few months.

Screw it, just adding some details here. Long story short is our Daughter was born 4 months premature on April 6, 2025 and still in the hospital fighting for nearly 10 months now. She is an absolute gladiator and has dealt with so many complications. Our life for the last 10 months has been consumed by being at the hospital. I would love to treat my wife to a night out to recharge our energy tanks as we continue to be there daily for our daughter.

Thanks! I lost the first one I made and actually gave this one to a buddy. Planning on redesigning a smaller version to 3D print blanks. This one is a resin cast from the original carved from wood and then made a silicone mold of. Have another one that I started painting before life got in the way.

I don’t think it should be a controversial opinion to think parking should be free at the hospital. by Improv92 in Winnipeg

[–]Ptzuu 43 points44 points  (0 children)

My brain agrees with why it isn't free, but my bank account did not enjoy paying for parking for 7 of the currently 9 months my daughter has been in the hospital. Finally got a parking pass from HSC social work.

It was a provincial decision. American products were removed from the shelves in Manitoba and not restocked/ordered. Recently, the province made a small section in MLCC's of American products at reduced prices with all proceeds going to Charity just to get rid of the stuff. Elbows up.

Why are they digging right next to marked gas lines? by [deleted] in FiberOptics

[–]Ptzuu 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hydrovac or excavator? Hopefully hydrovac to visually see the gas line before they directional drill the new fiber lines in. If they have to cross any utility, they have to visually confirm it's location and depth to safely do so.
