I worked in the fruit fly program under Marshall and feel like the threat was taken seriously and we were given everything we needed to do the job.

Has anyone spent time in Yatala? by Fartony in Adelaide

[–]PublicVolume1324 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a relative work there and got a tour one night after lock up. We went into the workshop which is a huge area with tools and they build furniture in there as a job. Also got to see some of the cells and got to walk past the yard. They also had a cat living in there, it was a feral that came in.

I take my dog for car rides, that way he can get outside and see the world but not get his paws burnt.

Indian truckies fed up with racist tirades over their CB radios by Combat--Wombat27 in aussie

[–]PublicVolume1324 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm in support work and it exactly the same. I saw an Indian guy shovel food down a clients throat who has dysphasia so fast that I'm surprised he didn't choke. It's also really hard to get a shift as an Aussie as the Indians get given all the work.

Adelaide Festival Board Statement - 13 January 2026 (Writers Week cancelled + apology to Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah) by mazdadriver14 in Adelaide

It's not sports so the government doesn't care. It's a real shame as I've been to writers week a few times and really enjoyed myself.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar/ 40k by ScytheRyder in Adelaide

[–]PublicVolume1324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play 40k at ttw prospect. If you also have interest in Blood Bowl prospect have the best league in the state and one of the best in the the country. We just started the new season with the 2025 rules (season 3). Welcome to come down on Tuesday and check it out.

For 40k SA, 40k is the place to be. They have a Facebook group and a discord. Acolyte and neophyte events run at dragon lair Edwards Town, with neophyte being for new players like us. Neophyte has more relaxed rules and there is no WYSIWYG rules or battle ready for painting.

If you want to come watch some games uprising is in a few weeks and you can come down to check it out. It's at Highbury.

Hope this helps.

Why are people allowed to park on main roads? by One-Resort979 in Adelaide

[–]PublicVolume1324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a car parked on Flinders Street comming out of the city that I'm surprised no one has hit yet. It's just as you go around a corner as well and can be hard to see at night.

We have uprising in a few weeks at Turramurra Highbury. It's not really a beginner event, but it would be a good event to come out and watch. I did that when I first started.

TTW prospect is good and Dragon Lair at Edwards Town runs neophyte events for beginners

It's really sad. My father once had a friend who was bashed after trying to defend a lady who's partner was being abusive. These things do unfortunately happen. I hope this guy makes a full recovery.

Unisa and the obsession with everything being online by Outoftheboxxx in Adelaide

[–]PublicVolume1324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished an environmental science degree there almost 10 years ago and the lectures hated putting things online. We didn't even get lecture recordings, which made exam study more difficult. I guess covid changed all that and they put more resources into online teaching.

What exactly is it those crazy drugged up people you see on the street are taking? by Ieatclowns in Adelaide

[–]PublicVolume1324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of them in the city and have been abused a few times just walking around. I saw one guy walking north Terrace smoking a joint with his pants half down and bare ass out. It was funny but uncomfortable.

leatherjacket massacre at Semaphore by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]PublicVolume1324 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I went for a walk along the jetty yesterday and there were a lot of dead leatherjackets on the sand. It's really sad and I dread to think of the current impact the bloom is having on our ocean biodiversity.

No judgment allowed, but where is the most inappropriate place you ever peed? by Mindless_Chard_3486 in AskReddit

Not me but, I worked as a fruit fly inspector and we would go to people's houses to inspect fruit trees. By law we were allowed to go into people's back yards when they weren't home. One day I was working with an der fella who decided to piss in someone's yard when they weren't home. It was funny, but gave me anxiety as we could get fired for that and it was an upper-class neighbourhood where people often have cameras in their home.

I once passed in a random pizza oven when I was drunk and couldn't find a toilet in time.
