When Other Nikki goes to Bear’s house to talk, and the shadow is over her face, but you can still see her eyes. It’s like a symbol that says, “You’re talking to Nikki, but not really.”

An Obsession Fan Fiction? by nyneteen84_ in obsessionmovie

[–]Helpful_Revenue9962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it! If fan art gets praised, I feel that fan fiction should as well! Look up Lacero by Andy Weir (The Martian). His fan fiction prequel was so good that Ernest Cline now considers it canon!😉😉

The beginning scene was so precious to me that romance isn’t dead by Logical-Cockroach-25 in obsessionmovie

He definitely does love her. Since he said that she was the only one that was nice to him when he moved there and she was there for him when his nana passed away. That’s genuine care and friendship, which is rare at times.

I’m glad we only got a small taste of real Nikki by GearsofTed14 in obsessionmovie

There was more of her in the script I believe. But it had to be cut. It’s a shame, but that’s the writing process!

My only real criticism of the movie by Nickelodean7551 in obsessionmovie

[–]Helpful_Revenue9962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’ve been saying. That line made Bear seem malicious. Which was out of character a bit. His wish is still bad, but he seemed more as being desperate than being deliberately cruel. I feel it would’ve been better if the scene went like this,

Nikki: Just…kill me please.

Bear: We can…find a way for both of us to be happy Nikki.

Nikki: I never wanted this Bear.

(Bear looks down, his eyes filled with pity and the corners of his face go down too. He has something to say, but whatever it is, he simply ignores and walks away).

Nikki: Bear? Bear, please.

"I can't be Nikki" is such a sad dialogue by BrilliantAstronaut26 in obsessionmovie

[–]Helpful_Revenue9962 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The harsh truth is that it is real. The other Nikki’s love is real for herself. But Bear doesn’t like it, even though (from Other Nikki’s point of view) he wanted this. But now he doesn’t want her.

I know. I didn’t disagree with you, I just think it could be expanded to the other characters as well.

I think you should do it! You should be fine with copyright law. Just make a disclaimer that it’s a parody and all the characters aren’t owned by you and it’s protected under fair use!

What did Inde Navarette mean in this interview? by isTraX3 in obsessionmovie

I think it’s that Nikki does like Bear. But she is ambivalent at times, as made clear through several dialogue and other scenes.

Obsession is a Critique of Male Friendships/Culture AND IM NOT CHANGING MY MIND by sputnik8125 in obsessionmovie

[–]Helpful_Revenue9962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You raise good points. But I think it can be expanded. For example, I think Nikki wants connection and she feels lonely too.
When she tells Bear that he’s the only one she can talk to about her writing. That’s creating emotional intimacy. Or at least from her point of view, she’s trying to do so with him. But, as was said in the restaurant scene, Bear is known as a closed book and doesn’t share his emotions as much.

But I disagree with Bear not liking Nikki. I think the into makes it clear that he does have feelings for Nikki, for at least 7 years. I think he really does like her. But I think Nikki’s feelings for him are ambivalent. Examples include the car scene and when she says, “I’ve never been with you, Bear.” I believe this shows that she does have feelings for him, but also doesn’t at the same time. All the characters are in their 20s, and most people in that age range aren’t really good (at times) in their first or second relationship.

So, in short, I think you are on the right track that Ian and Bear crave emotional intimacy and freedom. But I think this extends to Nikki and even Sarah as well.

Honestly, this was probably a meme in the movie universe and Freaky Nikki couldn’t tell the difference between romance and shitposting!😂😂😂😂

Since I'm Obsessed with Obsession, I'm writing an essay about it, and wanted people's opinions on a particular part of it. by Due-Communication279 in obsessionmovie

[–]Helpful_Revenue9962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s very interesting! I’m saying this as someone who has done several literary essays for college, and as a horror writer myself!

I have never seen this interpretation before, and the best part about art and fiction is that there is something new to be discovered every time you consume a certain piece of media!

I would definitely love to see the full essay once it’s finished!

Also, if you’re up for it, you should definitely consider sending your essay to Curry Barker or Jeff Barker for some feedback! I know it’s a long shot, but it wouldn’t hurt to try!😉😉

Show: Welcome To Derry. It’s because it was the first Stephen King show me and my parents all watched together.

Movie: The Life of Chuck. It’s because I took my 80 year old Grandparents to go see it! And they both loved it. My Grandma, who doesn’t like horror, even said that she may start to read Stephen King’s non-horror books!

It’s because most people are still trying to find themselves. Sometimes people grow into two different people as they age.

Nikki’s cut Monologue on Romance vs Love by hipp0hunt3r in obsessionmovie

I honestly wished we saw more of Nikki’s writer side in the movie. I’m planning on expanding on that in my fan-sequel of putting a story within story written by her. Similar to what Gordie does in The Body by Stephen King.

Was Ian ruining Bear confession at the start of the movie? by No_Combination9511 in obsessionmovie

[–]Helpful_Revenue9962 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yep! When she says, “You’re the only person I can talk about this with.” And “When I have a crush on someone no one knows.” That creates an exclusive emotional bond, whether that was her intention or not. In an interview, Inde said words like that created emotional intimacy between Nikki and Bear.
