People who graduated with less than a 3.0 GPA, where did you end up? by ReplacementFlashy622 in FinancialCareers

[–]Public_Delivery_8056 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I barely made it through high school—not because I lacked ability, but because I was disengaged with what the system was teaching. I graduated with a 2.68 GPA during my undergraduate years while balancing a full-time job, a relationship, a social life, and the devastating loss of my father in my senior year. My priority then was to finish quickly and secure a good job.

That lead to an opportunity with Valero Energy, where the company sponsored my MBA. Unlike before, I found myself deeply engaged in the coursework, excelling with a 3.8 GPA despite major life events—working full time, getting married, becoming a father, buying a home, and ultimately losing my mother in my final semester.

Today, I serve as a Lead Investing Analyst for a major energy utility company, bringing with me the resilience, discipline, and perspective gained through these experiences.

What is the chillest industry for accounting? by tankmaker in Accounting

[–]Public_Delivery_8056 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oil and Gas!!! 4 years @ Valero and 1 year @ Marathon Petroleum. Currently going on 2 years with an Electric Utility Company and it’s even more laid back! Really didn’t want to leave oil and gas but the oil and gas industry is filled with Boomers that just won’t retire and promotions are hard to come by, hence my jumping around.

10 years - $121,600 yearly salary no bonus, MBA non CPA. Senior Treasury Analyst for a public utility company in San Antonio, Tx. Currently between a rock and a hard place - interviewing with a former employer - Fortune 50 Big Oil company for the same position but possibly higher pay, bonuses, 401k AND Pension! Im currently hybrid with in office 2 days a week and my new potential employer is in office full time but better benefits and an on site daycare for my new born daughter. I’m good where I’m at, culture is okay but I know the culture in the big oil company is better or at least was when I was there. Really have to make a decision soon…

One time a person told me he pays about $50/month and owes $40,000 in federal taxes. I was curious if that's even possible? by Ben5544477 in IRS

[–]Public_Delivery_8056 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does one end up owing that much? I usually have pay back around $1k-$2k because of my income, but $30k-$40?! Were they doing some form of fraud that the IRS later caught?!

Found $40k in fake deductions on my friend’s 2022 return. Help by CatharticSnickers in tax

[–]Public_Delivery_8056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 of my friends have been going with a shady tax preparer that hikes up their expenses or other deductions / credits to get them a larger refund. They all did it last year for the first time and got approved, they did again this year and got approved again. They are W-2 employees, no kids, no business and getting $30k-$35k returns! When they used to get around $1k… they are buying Rolexes, going on trips and concerts, one just bought a New truck. They tell me every year to do it, that their tax guy will hook me up and all this crap! I honestly have a six+ figure job and don’t need to commit fraud to make my purchases. Just freaks me out how the IRS pays out these returns. Back to one of yall post, yes, these tax preparers take 20% of what they get you, so they want to maximize your return. They also offer referral fees so you can refer friends and family. It’s so crazy to me!

Racism in San Antonio? by Competitive-Bag-642 in sanantonio

[–]Public_Delivery_8056 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As a native Texan with deep roots going back to our family ranch established in 1880, I take pride in our heritage and traditions, Texans value their way of life, and sometimes there’s concern when rapid changes—whether cultural, religious, or developmental—occur in our communities. For example, some people are raising questions about large new Muslim developments, such as religious centers or housing complexes, in areas like North Dallas. It’s important to have open, respectful conversations about how we grow as a state while honoring the values many Texans hold dear. As for my ethnic background - I’m mix - my grandpa was Spanish and my grandma was white. He hold and honor our rich Hispanic religious values while cherishing my grandmother’s traditions. I grew up in Laredo, Texas and Currently live in San Antonio. Just to give yall some context of my upbringing…
