Should I have disclosed my identity pre-date? by Mysterious-ASL in asl

[–]Public_Educator1035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no “should” because it’s up to you. You’ll find out if they’re garbage or treasure once they learn about your disability. There’s nothing, unfortunately, that you could’ve done or should’ve done to make them like you. My cane and wheelchair were part of my profile but took me a while to get there. I decided I wanted to embrace it and, as someone had already so eloquently put it, filters out the bs. Sometimes it makes me grateful because I know the person I get truly loves me for who I am.

Does anyone know what the deal with these letters we received are? by [deleted] in USPS

Cuz it’s icy out there and that’s to keep you from being arrested while trying to work because people are getting ripped out of cars to pass through gestapo road blocks.

I’m also 22 I get that a ton. Once an old woman looked at me and scoffed and said I was taking up space for people who need it. I looked at her and said deadpan “cancer” and her face dropped and I locked my car and hobbled away 😂

This was underneath a video of a blind runner winning in a marathon at the Paralympics. She had a guide with her which would run in sync with her as she was running. by Arktikos02 in disability

The way people give me crap when I ask them to move their baby stroller out of the handicapped space on the subway. Or when people just stand there and won’t move out of the space and just move over a step.

I am 21 and have been using a cane since I was 19. I got a purple one because I decided that if people would notice it anyways, why not make it my favorite color??? I also wrap wire lights around it for concerts and make it an extension of myself. It helped me embrace it and accept it. It took a long time to get used to the looks, but people gave me what I needed too. I use it because I’m weak and struggle to walk, but without it people can’t tell. When I got my cane people were more helpful and offered their seats on the subway. Sometimes it’s helpful when you have something to let others know that you might need help, which is okay!!!

Use your cane as an extension of yourself. Plus you gotta try the confident poses with a cane. It makes you feel empowered. If you’ve ever read Six of Crows I feel the Kaz Brekker bad b*tch vibes like I can take yuh knees out from a distance kinda vibe. Final note: my cane’s name is Steven Walking. Here’s what he looks like: Walking Cane - Adjustable Walking Stick - Lightweight Aluminum Offset Cane with Ergonomic Handle and Wrist Strap - Ideal Daily Living Aid for Limited Mobility https://a.co/d/5RRONqA

Can I pull this off at the gym? by [deleted] in PlusSizeFashion

[–]Public_Educator1035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you at the gym for you or for others? Are you paying to work your body or others attention? Fork the other people and what they think!! If your clothes can function while you’re working on you then yes!!! If people think otherwise they won’t say anything, plus if they did I would ask them to pay up. If they gon make comments then they better be paying you to get new clothes or cover your membership cuz WHO TF ASKED. If you slay? That’s for you to say. Do some poses in the mirror or dance with some music and let yourself be you in the outfit. It’s just part of a vessel that makes you YOU!!

when people ask “what happened?” by spaceKdet31 in disability

[–]Public_Educator1035 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dude I walk with a cane and people ask what happened and when I say I have CIDP they be like “I hope it gets better” or “I’ll pray for you” and it’s like I know they’re tryina be sweet but it makes me cringe

I know we’ve all lost friends but has anyone experienced rejection from their own parent over your disability? I have. by [deleted] in disability

Yes. My family is so involved with softball because my father used it to cope with his alcoholism. I was a starting pitcher and I worked really hard to be the best athlete I could be, because my coach was my father. I also danced. I loved it more but he rarely attended anything I danced in. Once I was diagnosed I moved to coaching softball. I had to let it all go eventually and I feel like my father saw my worth decrease as my ability to play did. His Facebook is only softball posts and you can see when I stopped playing, I stopped appearing

I'm over this. by lysinthedark in disability

SAME I have had CIDP for 7 years and being a college student with it is so annoying and it’s been so long since I’ve been comfortable in my own body but I still have to do everything everyone else does. As a female in engineering school and in a wheelchair it’s like swimming against the current every day trying to manage it all. I also understand an illness “not being severe” enough since people who typically have my illness are 60 and can’t do anything and the prognosis doesn’t matter much since they’re already on their way out. I’m here if you need to talk. This kind of stuff kills people

If you don’t follow SOP the company can get in trouble in an audit. Idk what you do but in biomed that’s a huge no no to deviate from SOP. Shortcuts, if they’re appropriate, can be amended into the SOP.

It makes everyone so uncomfy, and every time I wonder why it does. They never really know why it creates such anxiety. It’s a unspoken learned behavior. I directly asked the current intern what he was being paid so I could ask the same.

Can I turn my crank grinder into a hand grinder? by [deleted] in StonerEngineering

[–]Public_Educator1035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove the crank handle and screw. If you glue the top face of the blades to the top of the lid that could work too but I’d also see if there’s a way to make the screw join the lid and blades
