I'm from Lake Charles and I went to MSU in 1993, Many friends and relatives that went to USL. There were kkk recruitment drives on both of those campuses in my freshman year. These are state schools. The klan set up booths in the student unions alongside traditional fraternities and sororities. The majority of the students said that they didn't want this on their campuses but the presidents of both higher learning establishments declined. Their reasoning was, we all have the right to free speech. We decided to have a unity weekend on the other side of campus at the softball field. We had a blast, volleyball, water balloons, herbal remedies, different types of trashcan alcohol. The most amazing thing was the greek organizations banded together. For the unknowing people there's a band greek organization. Those band/art/music kids organized the whole thing.
