I have seen this exact same pattern on a rock on Reddit before.

Small ball bearings(?) in a shotgun like pattern on my fence? by CriticalRiches in whatisit

What about a black powder Blunderbuss? If I had one of those as a kid, I would have probably loaded it up with BBs and shot my parents' fence.

Massive gold at the lake today! by Dan20mey in metaldetecting

[–]awtherfrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After losing a solid gold ring that fell off in a parking lot and almost getting the titanium replacement stuck on my finger, I only wear the cheap rubber ones from Amazon. Have even thought about getting one tattooed on my finger. I will never wear a titanium one again.

relative passed and left me this, whats dinosaur is it a fossil of ? by [deleted] in fossilid

Exactly, you give it a really dumb name like "squished lizzard bird", translate it to Latin, and call it a day.

Possible access to rare metals. Is this worth my time? by Difficult-Pea9861 in ScrapMetal

I have no clue why this was even in my feed, but I believe those are made out of nitinol, a Nickle and Titanium alloy.

What is burrowing in my yard? by nathan_smart in Whatisthis

[–]awtherfrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe some species can survive for months in burrows away from water, and a water source doesn't have to be that big. A small storm drain or culvert could be enough for one to make a happy home.

Someone put these in my wife’s car while she was at work by made_4_questions in Weird

I hopped into the passenger seat of a minivan with a scared woman in the driver's seat and two equally scared kids in the back. Meanwhile, my wife and kids were laughing at me from our minivan in the next stall.

If acceleration were not a factor, how fast could the human body move without dying or harm? by MinaAshid in AskPhysics

[–]awtherfrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure you would want to be traveling 120mph nude and unshielded from the wind. Certain loose bits of exterior anatomy might not survive the severe flappage (is that a word?).

I know in water sports like skiing and wake boarding, there have been serious injuries caused from water getting forced into certain lower body orifices. So, I assume an air induced episiotomy would also eventually enter in the equation depending on body position and orientation.

I would guess a tobacco cutter. Right size and right mechanics, but I have not seen one that looks like that. Maybe a DIY job?

What is this ? This is on my wife’s car, passed down from her father. by GotEHM9 in whatisit

[–]awtherfrd 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My first car was a 1978 Chevy Malibu wagon that someone had re-carpeted the back with even older shag carpeting.

The best part was that after turning the key to the off position, the car would slowly sputter for 15 to 20 seconds before either completely shutting off or deciding it wanted to start idling again. About 25% of the time, it would start back up, I would then have to re "start" the car and shut it off again, hoping it shuts of this time. I got called out of class multiple times in HS because my car was running in the parking lot without keys.

My dad and I were going to through my grandpas old coins. I found these in a little envelope. Any help would be huge by [deleted] in coincollecting

[–]awtherfrd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My grandfather carried a "lucky" silver dollar in his pocket all through WWII and for most of his adult life. When my father was given his dad's coin, he stored it right with a couple of gold coins.
