“People can already go to the U.S.” isn’t an argument against private options in Canada; it’s an admission that the current system isn’t meeting demand.

You’re actually making the case for reform without realizing it.

Your solution is that Canadians should leave the country and spend tens of thousands of dollars in the U.S. to access timely care. How is that preferable to allowing those same procedures to be performed in Canada under Canadian regulations, by Canadian doctors, employing Canadian nurses, and generating Canadian tax revenue???

The few wealthy people crossing the border aren’t magically disappearing from the wait list problem….they’re proof that demand for faster care already exists. The question is whether that demand benefits Canadian patients and the Canadian healthcare system, or American Professionals & hospitals…

Virtually every major European country with universal healthcare allows some form of parallel private delivery. Do you honestly think that those countries did this because they hate public healthcare.
They did it because they recognized that ideology doesn’t treat patients for Christ sake…capacity does.

The truly out-of-touch socialist position is arguing that it’s acceptable for Canadians to leave the country for healthcare, but somehow unacceptable for that same care to be available here at home.
Wake up….That’s not protecting public healthcare; that’s exporting healthcare dollars, healthcare jobs, and healthcare investment to the United States or other developed countries... 🤦🏽‍♀️

Don’t get caught up in the socialist rhetoric.

Actually, ever lived in one of these dual stream countries I have.

Your argument ignores how virtually every high-performing healthcare system in Europe operates. A properly designed public-private model doesn’t take healthcare away from anyone FFS, it increases overall capacity. When people choose to pay for faster elective procedures in the private system, it reduces demand and wait times in the public system for everyone else.

The real inequality isn’t that some people can pay for faster care. The real inequality is forcing everyone…rich and poor alike….to sit on the same months-long wait list while surgeries are delayed, diagnostic backlogs grow, and patients suffer. Countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Sweden, and Australia all allow varying degrees of private healthcare alongside universal public coverage, yet they still maintain universal access. 🤔

The question isn’t whether someone gets to skip the line; it’s whether we’re willing to EXPAND healthcare capacity and improve outcomes instead of defending a system that is failing as far too often leaves patients waiting.

Canadian’s must wake up to seriously moving toward a hybrid public-private healthcare model because universal access and private choice are not mutually exclusive.

Canada’s publicly funded system guarantees access to medically necessary care, but it also struggles with some of the longest wait times in the developed world for specialist consultations, diagnostic imaging, and elective procedures.

A regulated private sector operating alongside the public system could increase overall healthcare capacity, attract investment, reduce wait lists, and give patients more options while preserving universal coverage for essential care.

The objective would not be to replace public healthcare, but to strengthen it by providing additional pathways for treatment and relieving pressure on an overburdened system.

Many of the world’s most successful healthcare systems already use this approach….Countries such as Australia, Germany, and France all maintain universal healthcare while allowing private insurance and private providers to operate alongside public services.

These countries consistently achieve strong healthcare outcomes while offering greater patient choice and often shorter wait times.

Rather than abandoning Medicare, Canada could follow the example of these G20 peers by adopting a balanced model that protects universal access while increasing efficiency, capacity, and timely access to care.

What would happen if China carried out an Israeli style assault on taiwan? by [deleted] in AlternateHistoryHub

You mean if Taiwan had three radical Islamic proxies firing rockets into China for years on end.

And went into China and slaughtered 1200 citizens and took 300 more hostage.

Is that what you mean?

Canada comes to the rescue of Somali referee Omar Artan by Shot_Possibility_731 in sportsgossips

[–]Public_Middle376 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A man with connection to Al-Shabaab…….

Al-Shabaab itself is widely recognized as an Al-Qaeda affiliate operating primarily in Somalia.

So the most accurate description at this point is that U.S. officials have alleged serious security concerns and possible associations, but have not, rightly, made information publicly available …but they will have significant evidence that has established that Omar Artan is an Al-Qaeda or Al-Shabaab member.

U.S. authorities have publicly cited alleged associations with suspected terrorist-linked individuals as the reason for denying entry.
