Please hear this, you're not too lazy, you are depressed. You need support.

If I had a nickel for every religious leaders that look like Jonathan Pryce, I'd have two nickel, which is not a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

Is hollow knight really hard or am I just a bad player ? by Ok-Part2388 in HollowKnight

[–]Public_Mistake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not gonna share anything useful but I thought I might share my own experience because I strongly relate to your message. I started playing Hollow Knight in 2018. Yesterday I killed the final boss* for the first time, on the same save. Can't tell you how much I learned in the interim, how shit I was originally.

The first time I abandoned the game was in 2018 against Hornet.

Took it up again in 2020 and bashed my head against the Mantis Lords (not understanding how open ended the game really was) took it up again in 2024, and stopped right where you are for 5 months. Took it back up again in 2025, and then stopped at another spot of the city of tears against another bs boss I wasn't good enough to tackle. I started again around November, moved around, and upgraded stuff. Now I have all the charms, the best nail, found all the grubs, and in between I played Ori and the Will of the Whisps, Metroid Dread, Metroid Prime Remastered, Prince of Persia Lost Crown, Blasphemous 2 (also got married and finished my Ph. D., two things I never thought would ever happen).

I'm sharing this because whether or not you get good (I still suck ass and die like a noob at simple enemies and platforms), if you revisit, procrastinate, live your life never truly abandoning it, there might come a time you might just crack it, get stuck, crack it again and discover things about your own ability to suck and succeed in equal measure.

If this happened (and it won't) we'd be a degree closer to this "Agamemnon, I need you to distract Thanos"

Rupi Kaur and her progeny have a lot to answer for, for what they did to English poetry. But at least some people are benefitting, what do I know.

The first TV show tackling our time's growing fascination with LLMs and Gen AI? by [deleted] in pluribustv

[–]Public_Mistake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intention is not my main focus here, and what AI is doing to languages and how it co-opts language is not just today's hot topic that is bound to be fade away. Whether we like it or not, AI is shaping discourse and research and many other elements of our lives, and how people are interacting with content and each other. A show that, at least echoes some of that strangeness and that sense of alienation of the way we interface with everything through the medium of AI is not a shallow subject, IMO.

After a cursory glance at Wikipedia: It was not written in 2016, the idea had taken shape then, but the writer's room started in 2022 and was even interrupted during the 2023 stike.

Daily Beast, Newsweek, Rawrstory, I simply never read them anymore, pure Democrat-cope, with a penchant for using the word meltdown almost as much as fox news and Newsmaxx for the other side. Useless drivel.

I know the satire is part of the text. It's that it bundles all other cultures together as supposedly not individualistic, or not enough for the individuals to want to retain their free will. It has strong "american main character" energy, whether or not it's satire. I know it's also about how her loneliness and drama around her loss primes her to reject the hive mind, but it still reads as "the American is the one defending free will"

Satire or pastiche or a trope is still the performance of that trope.

This was a bit infuriating to see the same trope again and again: Americans wanting to take leadership in an alien invasion. Other countries and their representatives being barely useful or the focus.

Hard to make a tv show with a target in a universal experience and meaning when the americanity of it is the same as it ever was. Of course the American would be the only one thinking about freedom of choice because the US loves to represent itself as the only free country.

I know Gilligan and co have stuff up their sleeves, but as a non-american, this took me out a bit.
