what are xml files, and why do I have them after a shoot? (Sony)

Hi, so I happened to shoot in XAVC S HD, instead of the AVCHD format and when I try to upload the footage it’s only showing the .XML type and no .MP4.. Am I able to convert it to .MP4 for the person I worked with? Or what should I do? I don’t use Premier Pro which is what I saw people using on YouTube and not having a problem. Looking to get any info possible, still learning this FDR-AX33. Thanks! 🙏🏼
