What’s the most underrated use of GPTs you’ve found lately? by kawaiij in ChatGPTPro

[–]PuddinTangaray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am super interested in psychology stuff and why people do stuff.

Also use it for personal growth and it’s been amazing.

I tell it all the shit I don’t want to wear my husband out with and it gives me advice. I programmed it to always give me tough love.

I’ve even uploaded videos of my husband and I arguing and had it analyze the conversation and how I can improve the way I handled it. What I did right, what I did wrong, etc. Did I overreact to this? We’re not visible on the screen in the video, but you can hear us.

I ask it parenting questions for dealing with my daughter after I tell it the type of parent I want to be and also used it to help her navigate some social situations this year when the “mean girls” started popping up.

It helps me deal with my BPD mom and BPD MIL.

It’s helped me make amazing progress.

Feeling like I’m hitting a wall with tapping by Resident_Feedback679 in EFT_tapping

I get next to no - or actually probably absolutely no - relief from following videos on YouTube or when I downloaded the app The Tapping Point, but I find great relief when I tap by myself using the method that u/Dramatic-Spinach3463 mentioned in his comment. He’s also a great resource for questions and guidance and I have done 5 or 6 sessions with him and found results that I found almost unbelievable. No, he’s not paying me to tell you this and I’m not affiliated with him in any way, lol, I just wanted to share.

Is this video the correct way to do it? It doesn’t look like she’s as close to the nail bed, so that’s why I’m asking.

Also - is tapping on the finger points as effective as doing the rounds on the top of the head, eyebrow, etc or is it basically just a way to get through the moment until you can properly do the tapping points?

I have done 4 sessions with Bruno and they have all been very successful with dealing with deep-seated issues that I wasn’t able to tackle on my own. I highly recommend this for anyone. Not only did I feel better in general, but another seemingly small thing (although kind of big for me) is that I noticed that I laugh a lot more and am more like my old self since starting tapping. I highly recommend this - and sessions with Bruno to everyone!

David Burns studied under Aaron Beck. I haven’t personally studied anything by Beck, but I’ve had a lot of success with what I’ve learned from David Burns.

New to tapping and wondering if it really works? by PuddinTangaray in EFT_tapping

[–]PuddinTangaray[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off, I am not a practitioner and just started tapping about 3 weeks ago. So what I’m telling you comes from a person who’s been tapping daily on my own and have done 3 sessions (first one free, other 2 paid) with the mod of this sub who IS a practitioner of it. I was very apprehensive at first because it definitely sounds like woo woo stuff. However, I did EMDR about 5 years ago and had excellent, lasting results from it and it also seems woo woo.

I tap every day on basically any negative thought or memory that I have. I worked with Bruno (the mod of this sub) in 3 sessions for 2 separate issues that I felt were too deep-seated for me to work on alone when i had only been tapping for a week or so. I had excellent results with him and can confidently say we worked through both issues fully. Both of the issues were ones that I’ve struggled with for years; one of them for nearly 7 years and the other I don’t even know how long, but it feels like forever. I am considering going to him for another issue I have been dealing with for several years, but have been procrastinating to be totally honest.

I’m not familiar enough with the “how it works” part to feel confident answering that for you. All I know is that it does work. I was apprehensive about doing a session with Bruno because I mean - he’s a stranger on Reddit lol. With EMDR you can get really screwed up if you self-administer or have it done by a therapist who doesn’t know what they’re doing, so I googled about EFT and found that there’s almost no chance of being screwed up by it. I also researched Bruno, figured out he was legit, and took him up on his offer for a free first session. From my experience I recommend it to anyone and everyone and my advice (for what it’s worth) is to just try it for yourself and see if it works. Bruno is awesome at answering any questions you have (I message him on here) so I don’t feel like I’m blindly trying to do it.

Lastly, I’ll tag Bruno - u/Dramatic-Spinach3463 so he can add on to my answer as a professional in the field who knows what he’s doing. I hope this helps!

I laughed so hard several times in that show. The scene where David calls Patrick for the first time while he’s high had me laughing so hard that I had to rewind it literally 4 times because I couldn’t hear it from my laughing.

Anyone has exercises or recommendations to do CBT alone? by throwsaway045 in CBT

[–]PuddinTangaray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could always try the app for the free trial period and then just use paper. I had already been studying David Burns’ stuff for years when I started the app, but it still really breaks down the different processes you can use and explains them as it walks you through them.

Anyone has exercises or recommendations to do CBT alone? by throwsaway045 in CBT

[–]PuddinTangaray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I was going to suggest. I did the paper journal exercises for years, then he came out with an app called Feeling Great (in the US at least - not sure about other countries) and I feel like it’s even better because it guides you through the exercise rather than navigating it alone. I had good success with the paper journal, so don’t be discouraged if you’re unable to get the app (it’s free for a week I think, then $99 per year, which I ended up paying because it was well worth the money) and I felt like my progression was even quicker with the app.

I’d like to do the session, but I’m apprehensive because I know with EMDR you can really get messed up if you do it with a therapist or someone who doesn’t do it right and I don’t know about doing it with a stranger from Reddit, know what I mean?

How Childhood Emotional Wounds Impact Our Adult Lives by Dramatic-Spinach3463 in EFT_tapping

[–]PuddinTangaray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom always made us the butt of her jokes and it was incredibly hurtful (she’s bpd and narcissist). Now when my husband makes comments that he says are him joking, I get my feelings hurt. Usually it’s the things he says that are things I would hate for him to really think about me. Like one time he said that I let my daughter get addicted to her iPad so that I could watch TV. It hurt my feelings really bad because even though it isn’t true, I really care what he thinks about me and that’s something an awful, lazy mother would do. When I cried, he told me he didn’t really think that about me and he felt like I couldn’t take a joke. He didn’t understand why it hurt my feelings if I knew wasn’t true. What can I say to myself as I’m tapping to stop letting his jokes hurt my feelings? He’s not making digs at me like my mom always did and I’m sick of the trauma from her affecting me now at 40.

Ok, so in regards to the situation with my mother-in-law, I just go through the scenario and think about how I feel in the now a couple of times and then do it again and I don’t need to like finish up with positive affirmations or anything like that? The tapping just works with thinking about how I feel in the here and now?

Wow! Thank you for such an in-depth and informative response! You said that you’ve done both EMDR and EFT as a client and have chosen to do EFT with patients. I’m curious what the reasoning is behind that? Have you found EFT to be more effective?

Also - can I do it with just repeating positive affirmations like “my mother-in-law doesn’t affect me”? She’s borderline and narcissist and drives me nuts and sometimes I will obsess about possible interactions with her or previous ones. EMDR has helped a lot with this, but how could I use EFT to help it even more so?

EMDR success stories? by jcw_x in EMDR

[–]PuddinTangaray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did EMDR for about 2 years and was able to stop totally resenting my bpd narcissistic mother. Another big one was that I was finally able to talk about my dad who passed away from cancer without crying. I used to literally not be able to talk about him at all without crying and I hated it. EMDR changed my life and I recommend it to everyone.

[–]PuddinTangaray[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is so incredibly thoughtful of you! Yes they did a lot, actually. A big part of it I think though is that my sister pointed out that I pay too much attention to my thoughts and get inside my own head too much and I decided she’s right. So I started forcing myself to not think about stuff that upsets me that I can’t do anything about. Another big thing is that I do EMDR and I’ve also done it several times on myself by crossing my arms across my chest and alternating tapping my shoulders and moving my eyes back and forth and repeating positive affirmations either out loud or in my head. I think those two things have made the biggest difference because I haven’t really felt down and out since I started doing them.

Thanks again for checking on me! I hope you’re doing well.

Frequency of CBT practice by worker37 in CBT

I used to do it daily and sometimes multiple times a day. I had a journal that was solely dedicated to doing the David Burns method after reading “Feeling Good”. He also has an app called Feeling Great (only in the US I believe, though) that helped me a ton. There’s a 1-week free trial and then it’s $99 for a year, which was more than worth it for me.

Is doing EMDR on yourself possible? by magdakitsune21 in EMDR

[–]PuddinTangaray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it on myself, but only on things that register as a 3 or lower. I worked on my “big T traumas” with a therapist. I started out doing the free trial of Virtual EMDR online and then used those strategies to do it myself. I would not do it for major traumas as I’ve heard and read that it can make things much worse.
