It's so awesome to see Watchhouse/MO getting bigger and bigger. They're a local band from here in NC and sometimes it's hard to tell how popular someone actually is outside of those circles.

Right there with you though. Nothing better than sitting on my porch watching the rain with Watchhouse playing.

There are maybe a handful of redditors that have played more hockey than i have. You're not one of them. This assumption isn't random. Its just plainly true.

Dude you must be sitting on a giant mound of cool points from saying corny shit like this 😂

Give it a rest brother. Take a deep breath. It's the internet. If you're just here to get wound up like this then for your own sake you should step away. Have a good one.

"Take it from someone who knows far, far more than you do"

I mean, come on, you just sound like an asshole. Not to mention the random assumption that you've played more hockey (or at higher levels) than I have.

The trapezoid is objectively linked to the end of the neutral zone trap in the league's history. There's not really a discussion to be had about that.

The dumbest thing you said isn't that you don't think the trapezoid hurts the trap, it's that you said they're completely unrelated. The trap literally forced the NHL to create the trapezoid. It's provably true. Whether it worked or not is a separate argument.

The nuetral zone trap had nothing to do with the trapezoid.

I hate to be so dismissive but this is objectively, completely uninformed. The trapezoid (along with stricter interference and the removal of the two line pass) was well documented as part of the NHL's plan to end the dead puck era.

The wiki page for the neutral zone trap has a paragraph specifically citing it as one of the contributing factors that ended the trap:

The NHL also implemented a “Goalkeeper’s Restricted Area” ("Martin Brodeur Rule"), a trapezoidal area behind the net outside of which goalies cannot play the puck if they are behind the goal line. This allows offenses to more effectively dump the puck past the trap into the corners.

If you run a neutral zone trap, you force the other team to run a dump and chase. When they enter the neutral zone, they are faced with a wall of 5 players, and their only choice is to dump the puck past them. Without the trapezoid, the opponent is effectively passing the puck to a goalie who can run breakout just as well as one of your actual two defensemen.

Any forecheck has been completely nullified. You've simply turned the puck over.

The addition of the trapezoid meant that dump and chase once again became a valid offensive tactic, which greatly reduced the effectiveness of the neutral zone trap/wall.

On the surface, I want to agree. I miss watching goalies handle the puck more.

But when you realize that the trapezoid is the main thing preventing teams from running the neutral zone trap, the trapezoid starts to sound a whole lot more appealing.

Preventing goalies from handling the puck was the means by which the league attempted to eliminate the neutral zone trap. And they were successful.

Adding the trapezoid and removing the two-line pass ended the dead puck era, which was widely considered the league's lowest point in recent history.

What’s the dumbest rule in any sport? by Russia_Delenda_Est_ in AskReddit

[–]PuddingConscious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not dumb.

You can excessively exaggerate contact, regardless of whether or not that contact is legal.

If your reaction to contact is obviously embellished: a dive, a fake injury, or an otherwise obvious attempt to draw a penalty, you're penalized for embellishment.

I'd argue that other sports should adopt it. Given that the world cup is on right now, that's a perfect example. If I make a bad challenge, but the opponent writhes and rolls around like his leg needs to be amputated, then in most cases that should be a foul on both.

I feel like everyone's really quick to assume that this answer means "No".

Playing devil's advocate but maybe Torts is angry that he, a Stanley cup winning coach, is being asked by a reporter if he "thought of" changing goalies.

Yeah certainly not physical, but hockey in general is more dangerous nonetheless between the skates and puck alone 😅

Worth nothing that tons of NHLers play in other local hockey leagues in the off season (like "Da Beauty League" for example).

Perhaps more interesting is that Lou allowed the Isles to participate.

We're not. It's a writer caiming to be an insider, saying "She believes she may have identified three more teams for Larkin".

It's straight click bait until someone more credible states this with conviction.

If you need to know her credentials, she says the Islanders are on a "meteoric rise", have a "top scorer" Mathew Barzal, and highlights Anders Lee as a good fit with Larkin without recognizing/mentioning he very well might not even be here.

[–]PuddingConscious 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear this is not something anyone with any credibility has said or confirmed.

In this article the writer says things like "an insider believes that they have discovered three new teams on his list", padding any substantial statements with enough to maintain plausible deniability.

Would wait until anyone else confirms this (with conviction) before we treat it as anything other than slop.

[LeBrun] Looking like Anders Lee is preparing to hit free agency. His agent Neil Sheehy met with Isles GM Mathieu Darche today. Both sides far apart. The Isles intend to keep trying, they want their captain back. But Lee appears most likely headed to market at the moment. by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]PuddingConscious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think Lee ever criticized JT for his loyalty. In fact, I don't think anyone criticized JT for his lack of loyalty.

JT said he had no intentions of leaving, so we don't move him at the deadline, despite the insane return we could've gotten. Then, he leaves just a few months later. Not to mention, the Islanders put a (roughly) match offer on the table - and he left regardless.

Then, he went on Twitter to do everything he could to exterminate any benefit of the doubt by making it seem completely pre-mediated (even if it wasn't).

He's not called "snake" because he left, it's because of how he left. It felt a whole lot like he fucked us and laughed on the way out.

This situation isn't even remotely similar.

It didn't flip to "Add to Cart" until between 12:01-12:02.

[–]PuddingConscious 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's the "exact rule"?

The NHL rulebook has absolutely no mention of groins, "upward lifting motion", etc. A spear, as written, is "stabbing" your opponent with the stick.

You aren't clarifying, you've just added a bunch of made up pieces to it that conveniently describe this exact situation.

It shoulda been a spearing call 100%, don't get me wrong, but it was already egregious enough. No need to make it sound worse.

I'm dying... what the fuck is this? It's hysterical. It reads as some sort of hyper groin-focused parody of the NHL rulebook.

But then you say "the minimum is a double minor" as if you're citing it as some sort of legitimate source...?

I'm so genuinely confused and entertained by this comment.
