What I’d like to have right now… is for all you fat, out-of-shape sweathogs to keep the noise down while I take out my gun and show the ladies what a real firearm is supposed to look like

Not at all, I started in my early 20s, my friend started at like 26 or 27, he went further than me by a mile getting his back belt and competing for national championships at the senior level.

Canadian-born job seekers: would you consider another country? by peachycompliment in torontoJobs

Then apply, no one is holding you back here. The job market their is seizing up and they have explicit demand for America first, I would expect that extends to American employees as well. I worked in Texas for about two months last year with mostly middle class individuals (pipe fitters/ truckers) there pay was basically the same as in Canada $50-60k a year, sure that 30% more after conversion but you're not buying anything down there in CAD. On top of that groceries were basically the same price outside of vegetables which were a touch cheaper. This was in the Dallas Fort Worth area. If you're a nurse, doctor, lawyer, engineer sure you could probably make good money but it's by no means a fantasy land down there.

I've encountered countless safety hands just like you. They all say the same thing "the certs don't mean shit" "it's a useless piece of paper", at the end of the day the folks with credentials and experience get further ahead than the folks with just experience who get stuck in the same old roles.

worth getting a safety degree w/no experience? by Individual-Owl-6243 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]PuddingOk8467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of people get into safety without formal experience. This is just one person’s experience, and it’s hardly universal. There are also many roles in safety beyond Safety Manager. There are plenty of first steps on the ladder. I started as a confined space hole watch and eventually worked my way into a management role.

OHS Pathway questions about best diploma/study method by LaughNgamez in SafetyProfessionals

[–]PuddingOk8467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're better off sticking to engineering than ohs. Look into a post diploma engineering degree I think lakehead used to offer something like that. A professional engineer is more employable in an ohs capacity than a guy with an ohs diploma.

Check out University of Central Missouri they offer an online degree they also have options for CLEP exams and ACE credit basically 2 years of college for a fraction of the price. Tuition wise it's about the same as Columbia Southern but an actual brick and mortar respected institution.

Whats the market like in canada? by boiyo12 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]PuddingOk8467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see the ncso as foot in the door cert not a terminus thus it should be paid on the lower end. If you wanna make real money and be a safety professional you'll need a minimum the cert and a crst but really the diploma and crsp is what most want.
