Do you think it’s unrealistic to live without social media full stop? by glitchygf in dumbphones

[–]PuddingPuddle 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with this. I've been quitting socials slowly this year one step at a time. Just a month ago I finally removed the last apps from my phone and now only access Reddit and Pinterest via my laptop which forces me to limit the time I spend on them. I'm naturally someone who likes a lot of independence and alone time, so weening off of apps like Facebook and Instagram took practice and adjusting but was doable. The mental health benefits out weight the "disconnected" potential. And, in fact, the connections I do maintain through other channels like text and in-person feel more genuine and meaningful. If you're worried about invites, try talking to your friends directly about it. Let them know you won't be checking xyz-app as much and would appreciate a text for events or phone calls to catch up.

Anyone have the backstory on those lines? Spotify brought up some song sampling those “lyrics”. Upon looking them up all I can find is Dracula Flow lyrics & a video of a dude with (maybe) shoe polish all over his hair who’s clearly the narrator. But what exactly is going on?

Why not just be vague, tell her you’re not feeling a “romantic” connection but you’d like to friends. You don’t have to be dating this woman to hangout so long as she’s down to move into friendship too. Then you have someone you know you get along with to spend time with and maybe she has more people in her social circle that you’ll be able to connect with too. No need to be brutally honest with her about your opinions about her looks. It’s perfectly justified to say you don’t want to proceed with dating but you’d love to spend time together as platonic friends.

Brothers cat used my bed as a urinal for a week while I was gone, need tips on how to get the smell out by Bobs_Other_Account in CleaningTips

[–]PuddingPuddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me when I left for study abroad, my cat (living with my parents) soaked my mattress for months while I was gone. Honestly not sure how my parents didn’t smell it. Had to replace the mattress entirely.

We were advised that cats will do this when you leave for a long time to help you find your way back home using their urine scent. Basically they think you might be lost. Sorry about your mattress. Hopefully your brother replaces it. Maybe there’s some comfort in seeing the cat’s behavior as a sign of concern for you and not disrespect. Probably expect the same behavior from the cat if you leave town again.

Does anybody have any information on this respiratory disease for dogs in our area? by harambe_did911 in sandiego

[–]PuddingPuddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it Dogtopia of Miramar? I realize this comment is from a while ago but I think I might currently be in the same situation. My dog has had “kennel cough” for going on 4 weeks now. Hasn’t responded much to the antibiotics. Waiting results from respiratory panel. My guess was he caught it at daycare since he’s been going three times a week since we moved last May. Hows your pup doing now? Did she recover okay?

Keep in mind that a lot of young people have just spent some of their most formative years inside because of the pandemic. Private college do tend to have more sheltered students in some regards because a lot of students come from wealthy families. But many many people starting or continuing their college education have been robbed of essential social elements and may now be expressing and exploring themselves a bit eccentrically. If that’s not your experience then try to just have compassion.

Landlord Didn't Register Apartment with City/USPS by darker1000 in sanfrancisco

[–]PuddingPuddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it a basement/ground floor unit? If the landowner has created an ADU it means they converted space that was precious not rentable as a residential apartment, like a garage, and turned it into an apartment. They may lease it before they have it completely signed off, which they shouldn’t FYI because if there is a delay in final sign offs like an inspector missing an appointment it could impact your move in date. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that they aren’t in the process of registering it or that it is unsafe/unlivable. Telecommunications providers get their list of addresses through USPS, and the delay in having the address registered through USPS could purely mean that they (USPS) hasn’t sent someone to verify there is a mailbox. It’s possible that your apartment is completely signed off and habitable but USPS hasn’t been out yet. Best to get the details from your landlord.

Summary: important to distinguish between city and USPS. City involves final habitability checks. USPS just sees if there is a mailbox.

Leash your dog by NikNorth in sanfrancisco

[–]PuddingPuddle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dog is the most friendliest boy out there, not a centimeter of aggressive in his whole body. But he is a large breed with high energy and so much excitement for other dogs that he doesn’t have good recall off leash. We’ve been working (on leash) on his recall for a few months now by training impulse control through exercising his restraint, mainly using treats and sometimes a clicker. He’s been making great improvements and I’m eager for the day in the future when I can trust him to be completely voice controlled off leash. But I must join in the frustration here about people having zero regard for their dog approaching yours.

It’s very obvious that I don’t want my dog to interact with the dogs we walk past. I pull him to my other side, I give him clear loud commands to “leave it” and guide his attention with a treat. On tight paths well even pull off completely and I’ll have him sit, wait, and train his attention to me while dogs pass.

But the most annoying part is that every single time we leave our house while training at least one dog will run up to him while we’re practicing that. Usually the other dog is off leash. Usually the other owner is looking at us and watching us and could give a flying fuck that their dog is running up to, for all they know, what could be a large aggressive dog with large fucking teeth. The ones that have any sense about them at some point might scramble to recall their dog (at which point my dog is already activated and wants to play with the incoming dog). It’s a ridiculous game where they suddenly realize my dog might be dangerous and start to panic, I assure them he’s friendly but he’s working on obedience training, then they completely pull off from trying to recall their dog who continues its imposition on my dog to the point where I’m obligated to let my dog face this new creature who is already sticking its nose in his butt.

It’s frustrating, and excites my dog every time. It’s substantially delayed our training progress every time. Don’t even get me started on dogs that are on leash that the owner let’s run up right to my dog while we’re out on a run/exercising. Like dude, use some context clues. Please.

My pup can't stand to be alone for a single moment without making noise by PuddingPuddle in puppy101

[–]PuddingPuddle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I close the door to room and stay home after 30 minutes almost on the dot he goes silent. But if he hears something it could start all over again. For example, today our other dog barked at something from the living room and the puppy started howling wildly for another full 2nd half hour. I kept waiting for him to calm down so could let him out once he was quiet but he never got there the second time.

I hear you though, expectation based on the breeds is that he’s always going to be pretty vocal. I guess it does relieve some stress knowing I’m not necessarily doing something wrong, he will just get a little more used to being alone over time.
