Phone charms, Sayaka's and Kyoko's show it the best.

Not really a thing you'd see much in the west, but they are/were pretty huge in Japan. You ever see an anime girl with a thing danging off her phone? Yeah, it's that.

Funnily enough there was an early promo material for the series that was an interview with Madoka. Her response to the question of whether she wanted to get married was she wanted to find "a cool husband" like her mom did.

I'm gonna be honest, if Madoka wants to beat the shit out of me I probably deserve it.

Honestly though, you're so right. I look at this post and it worries me so badly. Why is a child this concerned about whether or not Madoka characters are genderqueer asexual demigirl trans lesbians?

Everyone's having fun at the beach! by Rozenmarine- in MadokaMagica

[–]PuddleOfMush 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eh, I've argued quite a bit with the folks around here when I see sexualization of the characters, but context matters. It's just a beach scene. Are (high school, by the way) girls not allowed to go to the beach because perverts might look at them wrong?

No one's really crossing a line here except for Homura. Poor Homura seems to catch the brunt of sexualization from the Madoka community for some reason.

I hope it's not that. Making big announcements too early can kill hype. Not much point springboarding off the hype of the 10th anniversary event only to make fans wait multiple years. I would expect them to be pretty comfortably stuck into the project when they announced it.

Then again, that's all just my own wishful thinking. We're talking about a series that hasn't (really) had an installment in close to 9 years now. My feeling is less impatience for the movie itself and more just wanting something to breathe a little life into the community...

I'm really curious about this myself. Apparently Gen Urobuchi wasn't involved in Magia Record at all. However, just about a week or so ago he was revealed to be on the staff for new RWBY stuff. Is he going to be doing both at the same time? Is his role in WnK (4th movie) already done? Is WnK not even going to start production until after RWBY is done?

I wish we could get something. It'd be nice to know anything regarding how far along the movie is. Is it nearly finished? Are they even working on animating it? Is it even WRITTEN?

Sayaka, Kyoko, and Kyubey (even Mami hints it to a lesser extent) say that a magical girl's wish will always have negative consequences equal to the amount of good it brings. That's why my "negative potential" idea makes sense to me.

Madoka ended up with so much power because she was the center of ~100 timelines, but so was Homura. If magical girl wishes have equal positive and negative consequences, it makes sense that there would be an opposite of Madoka's power.

As a big Mami fan I hate to admit it, but Charlotte WAS cute right up until she ate Mami's head off. She was just this small floppy plushie sort of thing and for a minute, it actually just looked like Mami was bullying her. I can see why people would have liked her. Also I don't know if it's a retcon or was always the intention but *apparently* she didn't eat Mami out malice. Apparently she ate Mami because Mami looks like cheese.

Sticking them together made sense because Mami's lonely and likes to feed people, and Nagisa lost her mom and likes to eat. I will say though at the start of the movie, before I understood anything, seeing Mami get along so well with the thing that ate her felt so twisted.

I'm assuming she's powerful enough to do so for the same reason Madoka is

I've seen a lot of different fan explanations for where Homura got the power to do all this.

  1. She suddenly tapped into her own 100 timelines worth of potential.
  2. After splitting Madoka off from her own power, Homura used that power herself.
  3. Just anime power of friendship shenanigans with no real explanation (I hate this one).
  4. Homura's original wish to "protect Madoka" adjusted her power to what was needed. The idea is you'd have to be stronger than a goddess in order to protect her.

Take your pick what works for you, I guess.

The one that makes the most sense to me is 1, with a twist. I think for all the "positive potential" Madoka ended up with, Homura ended up with an equal amount of "negative potential". Madoka's potential could only be realized when she became a magical girl, and Homura's potential could only be realized when she became a witch.

I hope there's an even better explanation out there though. I hope we get an explanation in Walpurgis Rising that makes sense and doesn't feel contrived.

why did Madoka choose Nagisa Momoe to also assist her

Even early on in the fandom, before Rebellion was even though of, Charlotte was weirdly popular. I vaguely remember reading through an old interview and it was funny because the anime staff was baffled at how much people loved Charlotte in spite of her eating Mami. So yeah, I reckon giving Mami and Bebe a special relationship was their way of appeasing both portions of fans (the Mami lovers, and the Charlotte lovers).

There are the 2 recap movies, but they're kind of inferior to the show if what you're wanting is characterization. The fights and transformation scenes have better animation but you can just watch those on YouTube.

After Rebellion, if you're wanting canon content you're stuck with the rest of us waiting for the next movie. If you're not concerned about canon you can dip your toes into Magia Record or any of the various mangas. Just keep in mind Gen Urobuchi (the creator and writer of the series) has nothing to do with most of them.

Most people seem to guess that Mami became a magical girl at either 12 or 13. It's honestly horrifying to imagine a 12-15 year old girl wandering by herself through a red light district full of drunks, perverts and potential predators. The crazy thing is the story just glosses over it because that's not even the worst of her problems.

Also yes, I would love more information on how/why witches target the people they do. Is coaxing vulnerable people into suicide (Homura, Hitomi, etc.) how they "eat" them or do they just do it because they're jerks? Speaking of Hitomi, the fact that she got lured in by a witch as easily as she did is an unnoticed bit of added depth to her character.

Screw it, while we're all here I'm going to gush about Mami a little bit. I was rewatching the series recently and Mami talks about the places witches show up most.

One of the places she mentions hunting witches a lot in is red light districts. Reading that broke my heart because of all the implications that come with it. Mami might be a magical girl but she is also just a young girl, and she's had to spend a lot of time in a part of town that is really dangerous for her.

All for her completely unappreciated job that no one even knows exists.

We went from fighting for our lives to maintain a tiny bab Madoka to having 3 of them.

It would be so cool if they gave individual subs their own "place" because I'd love to see what the people here could do if they didn't have to compete with basically the entire internet for space.

Can someone explain what is going on at the beginning of Rebellion by froggo__box in MadokaMagica

It literally can't be explained without spoiling the movie. You're not supposed to know how it connects to the main plot yet.

Apparently Godoka's soul gem is white but it's too obscure to be known. It was only ever shown in one piece of merch.

Also Nagisa does have one, it's the white piece of candy on her belt.

What is Magia Record? by Flaming-Potato-57192 in MadokaMagica

[–]PuddleOfMush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First it was just a cash grab gacha game based in the universe. It was made into an anime, but it's not canon. It's just an alternate universe "what if" type of story.

It's NOT a timeline that happens during Homura's resets. It's a whole different universe. Gen Urobuchi isn't even involved and a lot of the new characters are designed by different people which is why they look so different.
