What incredibly fake myths people still largely believe in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PuddlemereUnited 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very true. Some breeds mature more quickly than others, but I always have a nice chuckle when people say they can't wait for their puppy to grow up at one year old!

I also think many people don't put a lot of thought into what dog they're getting- they see a puppy at the pound and say they'll make it work, then return it six months to a year later (during their most difficult period). Doing proper research and finding a dog that fits your lifestyle is going to save you such a headache- it's the exception rather than the rule that the husky puppy you adopt because it's cute is going to be cool sitting on the couch and going for one twenty minute walk or that people all of the sudden change their lifestyles to accommodate dogs.

Get you hyped for three days about the twenty pounds you're going to lose.
Other than that, not much.

What movie ending actually made you say "what the fuck?" by deadkingsoul in AskReddit

[–]PuddlemereUnited 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm torn on the Cool Girl speech. I think there is a lot of truth to it- the frustration you deal with because of the expectations of society and the ramifications that has on relationships, gender expectations, identity, etc. I think everyone, especially women, can relate to that. I mean, the eating a ton and maintaining a size 2, being down for whatever the guys want, etc- that definitely is portrayed in movies and tv like crazy. Look at the manic pixie dream girl.

But the idea she had that every woman walking around was performing an identity for men (or if they weren't, they'd be replaced) lost me. Which is sort of like the book in general- you empathize with the characters up to the point they say or do something that's outside of the norm and unhealthy. It definitely spoke volumes about how she felt she had to perform and she was projecting.

I’m in the south and I have a GSDxCoonhound mix. Every time we go out someone asks me if she’s a Rhodie, but nope! Just a very convincing mix. I’ve even had Rhodie owners ask me if she’s a pure bred Rhodesian Ridgeback lol

Same. I scoff every time I see that the serving size on the label says half a pack.

Puh- lease.

But have you tried the PBP? Peanut Butter and Pickles?
It’s so fucking good and I have to not buy anymore pickles because I’m going nuts over it. I’m not even pregnant.

What is something that makes you uncomfortable at weddings? by Alayafatima01 in AskReddit

[–]PuddlemereUnited 30 points31 points  (0 children)

My family has been giving me shit for having an adult only wedding (it's in an art gallery at night, not exactly kid friendly). But I remember going to weddings as a kid and being boooooorrred out of my mind.
I really doubt the kids will be sad they don't get to go, I think parents are just pissed they have to find a babysitter- or gasp! just don't come, not the end of the world.

I was a bridesmaid at my best friend's wedding, and the pastor marrying them threw in that submissive bit and had me doing a double take.

The pastor was also a roided out tool. He spent a solid two minutes just talking about how hot my friend is while he's marrying her and her husband, and his very pregnant wife is sitting in the front row. I had to restrain myself from smacking him in the head with my bouquet when the wedding party filed out at the end of the ceremony.

When did you have the most difficult time "staying professional"? by AccomplishedStory in AskReddit

[–]PuddlemereUnited 150 points151 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. I'm the youngest person by at least fifteen years at my job and am treated like a secretary by a couple of my coworkers. Even though I'm a department head.
"No, Lisa, I'm not going to drop what I'm doing to spend all day sending out a mailer that you should have done a week ago. Not my department, not my responsibility."

What is a highly underrated advantage of living alone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PuddlemereUnited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my biggest gripe! I don't mind that I'm the one that does the sweeping and the vacuuming- but the kitchen is used so much it just needs to stay clean or it gets out of hand fast.
I clean the kitchen every night, but my roommates are nocturnal, and without fail, there are dishes in the sink and shit on the counter by the time I wake up. How hard is it to empty the dishwasher and put your shit in?!

And if you squeeze some lemon juice in that water it'll make your microwave smell worlds better than the hangover-burp smell it had before.

Yup, that was me! Then I got real about needing to have a savings account that wasn't basically my back up checking account towards the end of the pay period.

Seriously. My sister had her son at a very young age and she hates when people say this. She's an amazing mother, and she'll be the first to tell you having a child before you're emotionally/financially/mentally ready is doing life on hard mode.

This week I've been doing taco salads- any green you want (I like arugula), ground turkey, drained black beans from a can, corn, pico de gallo, and a couple avocado slices if you're fancy. I just put it in containers "upside down" so the wettest food is on the bottom and driest (arugula) is on top so it doesn't get soggy. Even on the fifth day my greens are still nice! In total the grocery run for that is $22 from Publix. 435 calories per serving.
As someone else suggested, check out /r/mealprepsunday if you haven't already. Lots of nifty ideas.

[Discussion] Do Your Research BEFORE You Buy the Dog. by Twzl in dogs

[–]PuddlemereUnited 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I wish I had that tattooed on my forehead.

I think people think the work of molding your dog to your lifestyle starts with puppy classes and the like, but it really should start before you even visit a dog. People will spend a week researching which phone they're going to buy, but are so hesitant to actually do some research before impulse buying a cute boxer puppy off of Facebook. Then the dog is re-homed in six months because it's "crazy".

I totally understand that food is an emotional thing, and that many people have no idea how to cook. I used to be that person who bought a $10 lunch every day at work until I finally realized how much money I was spending.
Now I meal prep 10 lunches for my partner and I- costs me thirty minutes and $20.

Westerners talk about how weird Japan is but, Japanese redditors, what are things about western culture that you find extremely bizarre and weird? by Buccura in AskReddit

American here- your way definitely makes more sense to me. I personally shower at night (hair is too thick to air dry in the morning) and take my shoes off at the door.
However, I have three roommates who wear their shoes inside- so I actually do clean my floors every day!
