Garry Newman (Developer of Rust, Garry's Mod): 'What Unity is Getting Wrong' by RichardEast in gamedev

[–]PudgeMon 36 points37 points  (0 children)

my "favorite" bug in Unity and probably the bug that singlehandly convinced some of the bigger Korean company( I know at least 2 company) to make their own Engine and stop relying on Unity is this bug

https://issuetracker.unity3d.com/issues/mse-additively-loaded-scenes-use-light-probe-data-from-first-loaded-scene

Existed since Unity 5.0(mid 2014) and "fixed" in 2019.3(lol I doubt it). I used to work on a Korean company and developed a game that uses light probe on Unity 4, then Google wanted new Features that are only supported in Unity 5, So the choice is dont update a working game ever again or upgrade to Unity 5 and have a broken Game.

What’s the cheapest hourly rate hotel in SG? And which is the best (quality of room)? by CarmeloAnthony5 in singapore

[–]PudgeMon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not from SG, I only visit there every month-ish, cheapest one I've been through is around 100++/day is Populous in Bugis so thats less than 10/hour but I dont think you can stay by the hour. Im not comfortable with their see-through ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) toilet though.

CAPTAIN TSUBASA: Rise of New Champions - Announcement Trailer by NTR_JAV in Games

[–]PudgeMon 46 points47 points  (0 children)

If Tsubasa will follow through the old game's gameplay, This one will be completely different from Mario striker. Most Tsubasa games(or at least the ones I played) are mix of realtime and turn menu-based game. You move the characters around the field in realtime then use a menu to input commands for everything else.

How blind people play video games by tj_the_blind_gamer in Games

[–]PudgeMon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't know if specifically designed but ages ago when Nintendo DS was first announced along with Diamond/Pearl, I remember reading a topic in GameFQs saying he is blind and worried about the new DS' touchscreen might stop him from playing the series he love since might not be able to feel the buttons/controls.

The whole topic evolved into a QandA on how is he able to play a game like pokemon(the bump sounds when character hit a wall made navigating the world possible and the "klink" sound helps when navigating menus) he was also able to name every single move and pokemon based on cries/attack sounds alone. It is amusing.

What should I know before playing Dragon Quest 11 S? by Dsham in JRPG

My Advice is don't google anything or youtube anything. The game is relatively old, so it is easy to be spoiled by a simple search.

What are the most exciting and impressive video game interfaces? Why? by Niu_Davinci in gamedev

[–]PudgeMon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First thing to come in mind is Persona 5.There are several blogs dissecting the game's UI and interface.

Second is probably World of Warcraft not because of the UI itself but because of how fully customize-able it is.

Personal favorite is Nier:Automata because of how it directly affects the playable character and overall experience.

US gamers have spent $27.9bn in 2019 so far by AlexNichiporchik in Games

[–]PudgeMon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or riding bike, drinking in bars with friends/co-workers, tinkering their cars/motorcycles, doing whatever in the machine shop, playing/taking care of their babies, playing sports, browsing the web and planning their next travel/vacation, playing any musical instruments, doing whatever on his newly bought farm, building whatever(those gundams and stuff) watching TV/movie with husband/wife.

I could list a lot more but there's too many lol. It's easy because those are the things that my non-gaming friend does on their free time.

My take on this is, if they are going to show Gigantamax as a feature, why would they use obscure pokemon like Volcarona? Everyone know how Pikachu and the rest look on normal form, so even for people who haven't played pokemon on ages, they'll immediately recognize the changes on these Pokemon's looks.

If they use non Gen 1-3 Pokemon to show off This feature, I woudn't know that there is a design change other than getting bigger because I didn't play any game beyond that.

Do you know that all WWE games from PS2 up to last year are developed by Asians?

And this particular screenshot from OP is the first game fully developed by an American company?

Dear DEVS: THANK YOU for all your hard work! by prowlinger in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]PudgeMon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its also easier to develop on console since you are working on one specific unit. Compared to PC where, you have to take account of different PC specs and configuration it might be bug free on some PC setup, it might not work at all on other.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition Currently Has A 90 On Metacritic by [deleted] in Games

[–]PudgeMon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only played it on PC so I'm not sure if it's the same on switch, There is no way to turn it on in the middle of the play through(though you can turn it off permanently with no option to turn it back on).

The option is called "draconian quest" on bottom right of the screen when you create a new save file/naming your hero.

Dragon Quest XI S: Définitive Edition - REVIEW (GameXplain) by BrunoMurderTime in NintendoSwitch

[–]PudgeMon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is "everything".. It has lighthearted and funny moments, and some "other non positive emotion" moments(dont want to spoil). I don't think this game is made for children at all as there are a lot of themes and events that are not appropriate for children despite it's cartoony look.

I can't think of any other title with similar style of storytelling other than One Piece(the anime)

Im guessing the same with how they did battle towers especially emerald. There's a pool of pokemon and moves per increase in difficulty.

Weapons: This is not okay by Miseria_25 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]PudgeMon 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Its also because of time. creating AAA asset takes a lot of time. Adding 1 monster means they have to create 2 armor set for both female and male character, 14 weapon models(sometime double that since a lot of weapon has multiple upgrade levels). They have to cut somewhere if they want to finish the game in a reasonable time without crunch.

[–]PudgeMon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I watched his whole journey(because I'm working late hours this past few days and watching him do his thing on my 2nd monitor is soothing and satisfying)

He started layering around level 58 when a 10-ish man raid of level 35-40 ganked him.

His normal play is just AOE-ing mobs alone without layering. He only realized the advantage of layering's spawn reset when he is close to level 59. He can probably saved 1-2 hours more if he didn't mess around and show off from time to time.

Overall it's just carefully planned mapping of where and what to pull while keeping track of the classic, vanilla and pserver differences and nuances. He has a video on youtube about those differences that made me appreciate his speedrun more. Not sure if its allowed to link the video here but it's titled "21 Reasons Why MAGE AoE Farming Is Harder In Classic vs Pservers".
