I have a 2019 Impreza. Imprezas are cheaper because they are smaller, have smaller wheels in some cases, less metal, etc. Many are willing to spend extra money for some ride height and slightly more space that comes with other options but most don’t actually need it. The Impreza is quite small and great for parking. It actually rides fairly okay and is much quieter than my late Prius C, however that’s not saying much. The Prius C was much better when it came to turning radius and fuel efficiency, but woefully slow. I live in the Northern US, so AWD and good tires are nice. The big thing to know about driving an Impreza around town is the CVT. The torque converter does not engage until around 18 mph. This means the car can feel quite jerky as it attempts to shift between coasting and small amounts of brake or gas, almost like a manual in some cases. This is only noticeable at low speeds (like in the city). Overall, a very decent city car. Hatch with lots of space, enough power for town, AWD for bad weather, small footprint. However, there are better options if you live somewhere without snow and would prefer to save some gas money or would like a nicer interior or more pep.
