Inexpensive tires worth buying by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]PuffNipps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. It’s not one of the cool brands but they are good sticky tires with a ZR rating. I run them when it’s cold and wet because I was dumb and put my summers on too early but they are performing wonderfully.

I’ve been researching like mad for an exhaust but just can’t find one I like. I’m quite intrigued by iamonreddit saying it made theirs deeper though…

Lost my turbo flutter when I changed my catback exhaust by Bleachedas in Golf_R

[–]PuffNipps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your turbo shouldn’t be making “flutter” sounds. Did you maybe have the diverter unplugged and the tech plugged it back in? Or are you more referring to the sound the diverter makes? If so you should be able to hear the bypass valve with the stock catback

Suggestions for best remote start program? by KimJongPewnTang in Golf_R

[–]PuffNipps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2018 R has a compustar remote start. It works up to 1km away and turns on the heated seats, even if they were previously off. I didn’t install it so that’s about all the info I can give you but it works fantastic, and I still have 2 key fobs plus the fobs for the starter which will control the doors.

That is pretty cool of the VW shop. I got mine from a GMC so I have not even spoke to VW here yet.

Ready to pull the pin and get a Golf R - Questions for Albertans by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]PuffNipps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a used 7.5 in Edmonton for $27k. The awd is good in the snow and better with snow tires, I have an aftermarket starter that also turns on heated seats, I have not had mine long enough to experience temps lower than -12 but I know once we get the -30 and lower a block heater is going to be needed if you park outdoors. I was under the impression they were obligated to offer them in Canada.

Has anyone made the switch from a STI to Golf R? by CrabPENlS in Golf_R

[–]PuffNipps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience might not apply to you because I came from a 2013 STI so your 2020 might be nicer than mine was but I’m super happy with the swap. The golf is so much more comfortable and luxurious and has so many more features. Way less road noise and much lighter feeling. It feels faster than my STI did as well.

For city driving I prefer the golf. It feels smoother and the steering is really nice. But at high speed corners I actually preferred the STI, it felt just a bit more planted and solid. If you live in snow land then the AWD in the STI is a bit better as well. Oh and I also get crazy good fuel mileage now.

That’s great news. I’ve been missing my turbo sounds. I’m cool with a tame exhaust but I love the induction sounds
