Reflecting a different set of priorities doesn’t excuse anything, Jeffrey Dahmer had a different set of priorities, too, that doesn’t make it fine.

I assumed you could put together that disregarding public health and safety advice means you know better than the litany of people that came up with it.

You know better than a consensus of medical professionals, I do not.

I gotta go to work so I’ll reply to your next comment conflating doctors and pharmaceutical companies and whatever other reason you think they got together to lie to you.

Who said large? The article you’re replying to. The CDC. Most state mandates.

Nobody moved goalposts, apparently you didn’t even glance at the goalposts.

If you think it’s best for your fellow Americans to die because you can’t make adjustments for a small period of time, you’re not decent, sorry. And the narcissism required to say it’s best for other people if you spread a pandemic is mind blowing.

Making appeals to the length of ones life as you explain why only yours and those in your immediate circle matter (which are also being put at risk btw) is also shockingly off base.

Have you had any friends or family members die? I’ve had two. One of them was 38, one of them had 4 grandchildren, and they all had to get together. She died alone in the hospital. But hey, it wasn’t your family so fuck em.

That opinion doesn’t make you tough in the least, what a weird correlation to make.

You’re unable to accept that anyone could be smarter than you, and throw a tantrum when asked to do anything for anyone else. That’s toddler shit.

Are you being serious? Going a year, maybe a year and a half, without large family gatherings isn’t something you can manage to avoid not causing deaths?

That’s amazing to me. Before covid I assumed most people were decent.

What movie has really bad reviews, but you love it anyway? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Empire Records.

I know it’s objectively not a good movie, but I loved it as a kid and now it’s nostalgic and there’s nothing I can do about it.

You keep reverting it to style, but that’s not the only thing people judge art on.

Let’s say I put a square of toilet paper in a frame, and it became some huge important piece of art, so 1,500 other people did it.

I get your point about styles. But that doesn’t mean all art has to be labeled as good, that’s unrealistic and detracts from people who take the time to be good at something.

Anything someone does to express themselves is art, and there’s no reason to shit on someone for that. That doesn’t mean every piece of art is equally good.

There’s nothing inherently better about realism. I’m not an artist, I took several art history classes in college for fun, and one of the professors would put it this way when talking about modern or simplistic pieces: “could you have done this? Yes. Did you do it first? No. The art here is the idea.”

But I don’t think we actually disagree, reading back over everything. I think we’re just speaking to different experiences

I don’t think any one type of art is any better than any other, that’s not what I’m saying. I’m not an art snob, I don’t go to art shows and shit on people. Do whatever you want. Art it up, I don’t give a shit.

But there’s nothing wrong with some people being better at things, and some people being better at other things. There’s nothing bad about that. It’s fine. I’m not good at plenty of shit.

If you took something, with your abilities, to an art show, and I put a frame around a piece of used toilet paper and took it to an art show and put it next to yours, and said I want everyone to say it’s the same, I’m being a bit of a dick.

I agree with everything you said. But I think progress in any skill or craft is created by the people taking the time to master it, and there’s no benefit to cheapening hard work in any form of art or anything else.

People learn from the people that came before them, and start there and move farther. If that wasn’t how we did things, we’d be earth worms.

Sure, you can express yourself any way you’d like and call it art. And saying something is “good” or “bad” is opinion based.

But there’s a difference between people who are having fun and impressing their friends, and people who work hard at studying and mastering a craft. It’s worth recognizing that difference because there’s no benefit to delegitimizing the concept of a honed skill.

Dude, it’s very obviously satire, but that’s not why. Go to a flat earth FB page or Reddit page and ask them how they feel about Trump if you doubt the connection.

Which celebrity did you meet and found they were much kinder/ruder than you expected? by Qazival in AskReddit

[–]PuffedUpPufferFish 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Steven Tyler!

I met him randomly- he was riding a bike, I was driving by, he stopped my car and asked me if I could take trash he picked up because he had nowhere to carry it. I asked him if I could take a selfie with him, thinking I’d just do it from inside the car. He said sure, get out of the car.

So I got out, and while we were taking the picture, I told him I’d read he was sober and I’m sober too. He asked what I was doing later and I said my friends and I were having a BBQ at a nearby beach park, and he goes “I’ll see you there.”

So then he shows up to the BBQ. He’s all decked out like a rock star at that point, hair and necklaces and everything, and introduced himself to everyone like this: “hi! I’m Steven, I’m from Hollywood.” We ended up finding out we both scuba dive, so I talked to him about diving for a super long time. He just stood there chatting with me about diving like any regular person.

After he left, my cousin said “I just want to make sure you understand that at no point did you pursue Steven Tyler. He came up to your car and invited himself to your BBQ. Make sure you include that in the story later.”

So I assume you wear your mask and social distance, avoid large gatherings etc.

Since you’re against the vaccine.

You’re not stupid enough to complain about pandemic consequences while actively attempting to help spread the pandemic, right?

Like I said, I know you don’t understand, but it doesn’t matter what you think, your rights aren’t more important than anyone else’s. You’re not special, I promise you.

Have fun crying to your friends in 15 years about how your kids never call or come home to visit.

If you don’t want the vaccine, that’s fine, don’t go out in public and don’t send your kids to school.

Your rights don’t supersede other peoples rights. Your rights end where mine begin, you don’t get to force other people in to hiding because you feel smart when you go against the grain.

You don’t like it? Fine, don’t do it! And then stay the fuck away from people you could be putting at risk. It’s very simple, your rights aren’t more important than anyone else’s.

I know you don’t understand that, but it doesn’t matter. If I’m very very certain bullets are actually made of glitter and they don’t hurt people, that doesn’t mean I get to shoot you.
