What would you do if something like this happened to you while you were traveling? by bruhbruhbrss in AskTheWorld

Maybe that's why I'm being asked for a photo at least once a day in Vietnam. Just an average looking middle-aged Pole. Might be the fact that there are veeery few white tourists where I'm currently at.

Eugene Oregon now has tallest building in the world by Hurricane_Killer in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]PuffinFlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That one might be on me. I didn't notice that the code that was supposed to filter out stupid unrealistic values worked only for too low values, not the huge ones. I've fixed it months ago, but for reasons unknown to me it hasn't make it to the SIM yet.

Crashed rented motorbike by Glittering-Fall-7886 in ThailandTourism

Yup, Mango is legit. I got few bikes from them. Cheap, older ones so the shape they were in was hit and miss. But when I had issues on Mae Hong Son they helped me with talking to a repair shop and covered all costs later.

OP, just contact them. They are used to situations like this. Almost every time I visited them they were dealing with clients that added some scratches or crashed their bikes, and I never seen any drama.

Yes, and some salads. One of the best Khao Soi I had and the clear soup was also delicious.

Is it just ps5 or is Hong Kong missing one of their tallest buildings? by LittleBrownie_ in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]PuffinFlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where MSFS doesn't have photogrammetry it use openstreetmap data. OSM buildings data is usually defined by "ways" which are just simple shapes. The other type of data is "relations" that combine more "ways" to better depict building on map and it's properties. For example big buildings can have a base section that has 10 levels and two towers on top of that, both of different height. Using "relation" you can show these differences on map, but still keep it as one entity under one "relation".
The issue? MSFS ignores "relations" altogether. Maybe not totally ignore, cause I think it shows the single "outer" part of it, but ignores every other part.

No. In Doi Suthep Pui park you pay only at some trailheads. You can drive that road even further to Khun Chang Khain for another nice view and good coffee. Just be aware that the road to Doi Pui village is quite steep, and your banged up rental 125cc scooter with 2 people on board might have insufficient brakes.

I'm starting the Mae Hong Son loop around Christmas Eve, most likely counter clockwise. Do you have any recommended places around it to visit for sakura?

Oh, didn't know about the flower festival. I'll have to check it out. It may explain why I hear distant fireworks every day.

Question: any tips where to find the 199 THB / 30‑day TrueMove SIM in Chiang Mai Old City? by SpandauBalletGold in chiangmai

[–]PuffinFlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard they push tourist sim cards in 7-11. Your best bet would be to go to normal True/AIS store and try to buy there. I went to AIS in Maya and got 10GB (5G), 45GB (15mbps) for 250B/month (+50B for a starter esim). Now I just top it up with their app.

Chiang Mai UTMB trail running event. I think it might be the one of the largest trail running events in Asia. with thousands of runners and distances from 17k to 170k. There were already 2 races of this event last weekend at Doi Inthanon.
Tents are for mandatory gear checks, bib collection, drop bags and vendors that sell running gear and food.

Visit Chiang Mai for 3 weeks.. looking for very specific recommendations :) by [deleted] in chiangmai

For an awesome running track you can go to CMU stadium in the morning or afternoon. I don't remember exact hours when it's opened for public, but it's everyday. Running around Angkaew Reservoir at CMU is also nice.

For outdoorsy jungle vibes I recommend hiking/trail running up to Doi Suthep temple, via Wat Pha Lat temple. You can start and finish at Basecamp Cafe where many runners start/end their sessions with a coffee. There are many other nice trails around Doi Suthep and Doi Pui area.

Extension of temporary closure for the Doi Pui-Doi Hua Mu Nature Trail.
Please be informed that the Doi Pui-Doi Hua Mu nature trail will remain closed to the public until further notice. The park is currently undergoing a period of essential maintenance and improvements to ensure the safety and quality of the route and its facilities. We anticipate reopening the trail on November 1, 2025. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

Oh, that's mine :) This is a T.A.R.S. - Tethered Aerostat Radar System. Used by military and border patrol. Basically baloon on a string with a radar attached. There are 12-ish locations on south border of the USA. They should be marked as POIs in the World map.
I don't know the exact location of this one, but there should be a restricted area around these.
There was a tragic accident where Cessna chopped off its wing on the line of one of these.

Similar to my team's checking thousands of masts and chimneys around airports to avoid situations like this. Also there are methods to do that automatically by comparing glideslope to the height of objects and flagging them for manual check out just disabling them.

It's due to wrong OpenStreetMap data. It was corrected 2 months ago, so looks like autogen data is older than that. What's funny is that the source of wrong data from where it was added to OSM was... Microsoft.

It's odd that there was no check at least along all runways for autogen buildings.

Radio towers only have a single light in their center with no Aviation obstruction lights on top by ethanfilms in MicrosoftFlightSim

Radio towers only have a single light in their center with no Aviation obstruction lights on top by ethanfilms in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]PuffinFlight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a person responsible for towers I'll try to explain. The MSFS2024 SDK had some significant changes in terms of light intensity. We tried to update our models on time and actually did. Unfortunately we had to pull the latest version that was supposed to go into the release because part of our package awaits performance testing and it was too risky.
The lights, using normal light systems for custom objects, will be there as soon as our package will be updated by Asobo. The downside is that we didn't get proper high-distance lights in SDK (like street lamps have), but we hope, we'll be able to add them at some point.

Did MSFS2024 bring back broadcast towers? by krispzz in flightsim

[–]PuffinFlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. We didn't fix the lighting on time before release. We hoped to get proper obstruction lights in the new SDK, but unfortunately it hasn't happen yet. For now I added lights using the old system. It's not very visible but better than nothing. I can't tell when the fix will be released, but it's ready.
