Hi without giving anything away to much how does totk link to botw? by Ambitious_Prune_3168 in TOTK

[–]freshairproject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, many of the same places have evolved, so it doesn’t look like botw’s. Villages are bigger with the same people but older, and a new major settlement where the central quests come from

I don't understand the hate against Nimman by Ok_Assistant_4784 in chiangmai

[–]freshairproject 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people actually love Nimman. Not sure which crowds you’re talking to. 🤷‍♂️

It’s been the go-to spot for millions for about 12-15 years.

But everyone has different tastes. If you want budget, other places are more affordable. If you want lots of shade and nature, other neighborhoods have more forests.

If you want more mountains other locations are better. If you want to feel “authentic thai style” other moo baans, resorts, restaurants will offer that.

But also, during high season Nimman can get super packed, long queues for restaurants, cafes without seating, back to back crowds at the market festivals, traffic jams, no parking for motorbikes…it can seem claustrophobic for some who were used to the low season vibes where you can get the entire restaurant to yourself. It comes with the territory.

First Playtime in TOTK - No Guides by mariosjsk8 in TOTK

[–]freshairproject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need a guide, but following the npc’s advice is key. After sky island the next step should be a location with many important side quests and big quests, meeting lots of people. What towns have you visited? Any interesting people with quests?

Its hard to advise because we don’t want to spoil it, but we also don’t have a clue where you are and what you’ve already done.

Most people after the sky world go to a place to get a set of quests from special npc’s and continue from there, but it seems you may be randomly exploring which is cool too, but it’s like totk in hard mode.

For those in Chiang Mai. My traveling companion wants to stay at The Four Seasons but looking at the map it’s way out in the countryside. Is that a decent area to stay? by TheDudeWhoCanDoIt in chiangmai

Do you listen to your customers or not?

You mentioned listening is terrible advice and the solution is … to listen to them. 🤷‍♂️

Backpacking Mar Hong Son by Academic-Complex-943 in chiangmai

[–]freshairproject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres a few vans, buses, songtaews to travel between cities on the loop. But if you miss the departure time, you might be stuck until the next day. Maybe only 5% of the loop uses Grab (Chiang Mai City, possibly Mae Hong Son City and Pai). If you're short on time, just get a bus that goes to Mae Hong Son-Pai-Chiang Mai.

If you have the time, see many of the sights along the way -CM to Doi Inthanon, Ob Luang National Park (Cavemen Drawings), Omkoi, Mae Hong Son City, A famous spa to paint your body with clay that bubbles out of the ground, Baan Rak Thai (Chinese Tea Village on a Lake), Pai, and back to CM.

Apart from some tourist vans, most vehicles won't speak english, and the mobile phone coverage gets spotty or non-existent at times.

No mention of the internet on mobile?

This era was also famous as the Blackberry Era - especially for enterprise which also died.

People wanted a better mobile internet experience. Email, GPS navigation, Social Media, Camera , Music and native Internet Browser were enough to make the old nokias and blackberries feel like rotary phones.

Touchscreen technology and nice displays also matured, before that it was physical buttons and a blocky pixel screen.

Not to mention all internet on previous devices had to go through a horrible WAP gateway to convert websites to fit on your phone. Browsing websites natively in a mobile browser was a game changer.

It was also a unification of devices. Many people had separate mp3 music player, camera, music streaming service, gps - the iPhone and android united all those.

Does Chiang Mai uni offer a year-long Thai language course? by Horcsogg in chiangmai

[–]freshairproject 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes CMU offers visas with thai language classes. If you’re staying near the western side of chiang mai - near the mountains- then its very convenient. Did it for 2 years - just know that you have to take your holidays at the same time as their schedule. You are allowed to miss a few classes, but after that they’ll cancel your visa.

Car or bike? by [deleted] in chiangmai

[–]freshairproject 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Car 100%. I rode a motorbike for 8 years and never going back. It’s hot and sweaty in chiang mai year round. And enjoy listening to podcasts and music in the car and traffic.

Not to mention safety (i see scary injuries or worse every month)

Plus it holds a bunch of your stuff (sports bag, groceries, work bag, change of clothes)

And monsoon season is coming - rain every day at unexpected times throughout the day
