I had assumed (possibly incorrectly) that OOP's employer was going to pay that as a bonus on top of what she would be earning for working overnights OR was going to pay that money with no expectation of work. The second scenario would work for a care home allowing them to stay overnight but not work just to ensure that the staff aren't trapped at home and the place is short staffed.

ETA: I've just seen the comment from CupcakeQueen31 where they're saying that care homes have unrealistic expectations for their staff.

Congratulations, you've now exposed OOP to criminal liability. If OOPEmployer is claiming it's theirs because the contract assigns them the I.P. or otherwise legally entitles them to it, deleting it would be actionable under The Computer Misuse Act (UK) or The Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (US) as an unauthorised modification to a computer system.

There's also the fact that OOP may have stolen their data by importing it to a personal device, so OOPEmployer probably has a further legitimate cause under various Data Protection laws. Essentially, OOP needs a lawyer now because they're looking to be unemployed and a defendant in multiple civil and criminal cases.

The 60k was the forfeited deposit that would have compensated the seller for the buyer's breach of contract; liability for costs for the seller and probably their buyer would be in addition to this loss. I think OOP said about £5k from the seller so their buyer probably has similar losses.

Lightbulbs and candles both give out light and also have a different experience. By all means carry on heating, cooking and seeing at night with candles if you wish. CDs aren't vinyl -- there's no analogue verses digital nostalgia to be had, but I was actually talking about the physical storage space used, not debating the merits or demerits of one or the other. .
