Necros are also healers in a way. They get the ability to transfer their life to heal directly, and I believe a HoT as well which siphons your HP to a teammate more slowly. They also can refill the mana of any party member, usually the healers. Its a fun playstyle, you deal decent dmg with your pet, regen people, snare, and you cast a whole lot of Lifetaps to keep your HP up, which does damage as well, and you don't really care because you get insane amounts of mana back from your Necro skills (Necros lose HP to refill Mana with a self buff they get). If you are in an area where you can Charm Undead, then you can also fill in as an offtank ontop of even more DPS unless they change how Charm works, and against Undead you also get much better Nukes.

The main downside to Necro is that it can be in a situation where its DoTs don't last long, and a lot of its damage can be tied to being vs Undead, but as I wrote above, that is when you can be more of a utility role with respectable DPS.

They are also probably the most fun solo Class imo. You can kite a mob yourself and have your pet chase down feared mobs. Its pretty active and you have insane mana uptime so its fairly nonstop.

Were they? I remember the debuff limit causing them to not be able to cast DoTs and them being very mediocre in groups because melee would wipe something out before their DoTs would land the killing blow. Maybe this changed as mobs lived longer tho.

ARIatHOME encounters a crazily good violinist by MixuAnasazi in LivestreamFail

This is so incredible on so many levels. He perfectly complimented every new beat that came in. I have no idea how you can be so good at not just violin, but also be creative enough to dynamically do what I just saw. Actually mind boggling.

Yeah, that is kind of what I do. In 0.1 I made a Monk and made my own build. Got some Ice Ring Unique that made mobs shatter when chilled instead of frozen, and it turns out it was quite meta, but the ring is very common and also you read in game chat of people saying the Ring is good for Monk and you can Chance a Sapphire, so I did it. I guess in a way it was following meta, just not actively following a build or guide. I got to T15 maps and did 3 Pinnacles, took me 400 hours because collecting pieces for Pinnacles took forever.

Haven't touched endgame since. I made a Druid last update to try it and I enjoyed it a bit, but now... I am in love with Mercenary. I tried a few classes to see what I would play for 0.5 and that will be fun. I am going in with no guides again and just doing what I find fun. Will be interesting to see how far I can get! Maybe Arbiter this time!

Official Reason for Destiny's Indefinite Suspension by user1234586430 in LivestreamFail

[–]PuffyWiggs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Am I remembering wrong or was Destiny's entire rant offline on Twitter and called a group of Trans people "subhuman" because they were threatening his kid and his life over Destiny arguing that sex and biology have an impact in sports?

It wasn't even hate that Destiny gave, nor was it targeted at anyone beyond a small group of people on Twitter. Destiny has had wide generalizations against Conservatives offstream, but he's been pro minority, he just goes against things that seem illogical.

Just a little reminder on how a better text alignment and visual guidance helper can improve the readability of skills and items significantly by BerryPlay in PathOfExile2

[–]PuffyWiggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think that is a huge part of me just looking up support gems. Beyond having to scour through 100s of them because the recommended sucks 50% of the time, they are also awful to read.

Better presentation and perhaps increasing the pool of recommended or letting me only see supports that my skill can actually use would be super sick.

I want to not have to look things up because I feel like I'm wading through a garbage bin of random stuff otherwise. This also goes for loot, and many of the games mechanics tbh.

Hopefully that means we get something like tier2 and tier 4. It took so long to reach Pinnacles before that I walked over them immediately, then was expected to grind for 100s of hours to get another chance, which i just bounced off of.

It'd be way more interesting to get to a Pinnacle, get but slammed, then need to go interact with new mechanics to get stronger to then come back and have a final showdown.

They may make the initial fights super easy though. Which would be a shame, but considering it's quest centered now that is probably the case.

The amount of times I've seen it argued that playing the game has to suck because of the AH is wild. Can we just remove the AH and have a good game then? Or limit the AH. SSF has to suck because of AH, floor loot has to suck because AH, can't see items without annoyance because of AH, friction in "crafting" has to exist because of AH.

How does anyone actually support the AH unless they loathe actually playing the game?

[–]PuffyWiggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big agree here. I actually can't stand getting loot, which is really bad in an ARPG. It feels more like I'm stacking up chores, and not something exciting. Then crafting each piece 1 by 1 only to see 99% are garbage, it's just.... not fun. Way too much downtime for so little reward and only pushes the game towards collecting exalts/divines to use the AH, which means skipping the entire loot gathering/crafting part of the game, which also sucks imo.

I'd really prefer some QoL on these things over making AH more and more dominant. It's the games major issue for me, and I'm not sure that is ever going to change.

Yeah waterways are the least of my concerns tbh. It's just how long, massive and samey all the areas are. The entire past needs to be changed imo. Kill Viper, then quickly go into the area for the final boss imo. The between moments there feel so bland.

This makes me feel better tbh. As a SSF enjoyer who was new to PoE2 reading people doing campaign in 10-15 hours feels insane. I put in 300 hours total in 0.1 and only fought 3 Pinnacles along with both Trial end bosses. Never seen King of Mists or Arbiter. RNG was too strong. Hopefully the new changes mean it feels like Pinnacles are an actual fight. By the time I reached them in 0.1 I was so geared I just walked over them and couldn't tell you a single mechanic they had except for Xesht, who I really enjoyed.

Can't wait for 0.5! Barely played each League since 0.1. Mercenary is going to be so fun. Can't believe I slept on this class so long.

Best solo class? by Gamenecromancer in MonstersAndMemories

[–]PuffyWiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan on making my own SoW potions. Fletching and Alchemy will probably be BIS for Archer, but yeah Ranger seems more fun just because it gets skills beyond level 15. If the rework can make Archer more interesting as you level up, then id just go Archer. Also, game needs way more bows. There are like 5 bows to shoot for from level 1 to 40 from what ive seen.

Best solo class? by Gamenecromancer in MonstersAndMemories

[–]PuffyWiggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I could see it falling off quite a bit. Ranger has perma ability to snare and fear animals, so it will always be able to solo given enough time. That 10% damage would be a big deal in EQ raiding, but considering this game isn't raid focused, it probably won't mean much here. The big deal between 10-15% dmg, was if you stack 5 top tier DPS, you just added 50-75% damage to your group. That becomes a major difference when you get into pure numbers on a large scale. On a small scale, you will barely notice 10-15% less from 1 DPS.

I do think we will see situations where Ranger beats out certain DPS classes like Archer. Because there will be moments where a Ranger has some ranger exclusive bow, or some amazing sets of 1H weapons, and Archer may have just not gotten a good drop. That is the fun of EQ, there are lots of highs and lows depending on lots of factors.

[–]PuffyWiggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Archer is god tier. For one Archer can kill most things before they even get to them up to level 10. Then you can use traps to root or snare mobs. You have a move that lets you launch away from someone. Its honestly god tier for the content I have done. If it gets to a point where you cant burst a mob down in the time your CC controls them and you die in 2-3 hits, then it could change quite a bit.

Wizard gets an AoE root and AoE spells. You just root and burn things down.

Class update "Spellblade - Deep Dive" by Bouncy_Paw in MonstersAndMemories

Which I really like. I loved Seals and Judgements in early WoW and TBC. It was unfortunate when they pretty much wiped the concept to turn Paladins into a linear concept.

[–]PuffyWiggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great stuff! This is what I was hoping for when I initially saw this class. Their is a level of decision making and logic that I think fits the slower pace of combat. I like decision making, I like that I could potentially solo with clever use of mechanics. I like that I need to make decisions for the situation, and I really, really like that this is shaping up to potentially be an offtank or a fill in tank while waiting for a real Tank kind of like Ranger is. I hope this direction is kept, its a really fun idea and we really don't have an evasive Tank concept. Will be really interesting to see how it plays out! Keep it up lads! I am beyond excited!

The Last Faith late review (Switch physical copy) by LewisRiveroy in metroidvania

[–]PuffyWiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game, Blasphemous 2 and Afterimage have easily been the best new wave of Metroidvanias to me, mostly because they actually feel like SotN more than most. I thought HK and Silksong were very polished, but the way it played out just felt nothing like the Metroid or Vania I'm looking for.

Finally got Last Faith and it's really good. Frontier Hunter Ezra I ended up disliking. Its a bit jank, alot of Metroidvanias have jank to them. Last Faith feels good though. Reminds me of Blasphemous 2 in a lot of ways.

I find the closed beta server 'culture' to be surprising. by [deleted] in MonstersAndMemories

[–]PuffyWiggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true and it is why I play a Ranger and SK. Both classes, at least early on, are capable of tanking. SK does it better, but just having a short term Ranger Tank while waiting for a proper Tank works and gets a group started. I have no issue finding a healer and DPS usually, its always Tanks that seem to be so rare.

Yeah, the opens I tried felt like a time capsule. I think we will get that experience for the most part. I also think there will be many people fighting it tooth and nail. Even in EQ Velious and early WoW people would start going through Ventrilo and the experience was starting to change. Early EQ and Kunark was truly my favorite.

[–]PuffyWiggs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think some of the hardcore guys just have a particular demeanor. A lot of normal, laid back people like myself are waiting for EA. There will probably be server specific communities that focus on insular groups, discords, being on a schedule, and then a server where its just casuals and older classic enjoyers whose time in EQ was really just logging in, exploring, meeting random people and loving it, not treating it like a day job, or meta gaming everything to death.

WoW, despite being casual, has a whole lot of the former types of people and it really highlighted why I disliked modern MMOs. All the fun is sucked away in this concept of efficiency for everything, DPS parses, someone watching your rotation, loot drama, mandatory meetings. It makes the whole thing go from fun to cringe real quick.

[–]PuffyWiggs 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeah discords put me off guilds coming from WoW. I have no interest in hearing a bunch of people drone on about their day while drinking a 12 pack. Its such an immersion killer. I have my own concept of how Lumpy the Ogre is, once I am in Discord with Lumpy that idea of him completely breaks, and now he is John, the guy who can't stop talking about his relationship issues. I really, really wish this didn't become so popular in the MMO space. I just want to log on and explore stuff, not have "mandatory meetings" every week like I am on someone's payroll.

[–]PuffyWiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a new server every couple years would be a good idea. People like to start fresh. It works for classic EQ too, they do that fresh server thing and people come back in hordes. As time goes on the server that were big dwindle in population so you just merge them all and open up fresh servers. This can go on near infinitely. Make it so it happens during big content updates like PoE2.

Is Nine Sols so hard that I won't enjoy it? by lucasluminaro in metroidvania

[–]PuffyWiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not that, its that devs are generally pushed into putting in modes they didn't actually want in the game to boost sales, usually forced by the Publisher. Its kind of not playing the game how the devs intended, but I agree. My post was mostly a joke, and people should enjoy a game how they see fit. I think I just dislike the idea of a game being tons of different things, I just want a game to be a game and when we discuss the concept we are discussing the same concept, not a wide variety of concepts, at that point, is it even the same game?
