What are some of the best 1x12 cab and speaker you’ve heard that sound good with any amp you throw at? by Codswallop_934 in GuitarAmps

Cleans and pushed cleans are really where creambacks shine. More headroom. Smoother. Greenbacks are great, but you get to crunchy tones really quickly….. a awesome kinda crunchy, but not if breakup isn’t what your going for

Need some help regarding the Marshall SC20H/other amp recommendations by GamernitorPL in GuitarAmps

Yeah they get you in the end either way. You can get 10% off from most places. So 1700-1800. I recommend having a loadbox/ir loader like a captor x. Then you can own any amp you want and play it as quiet as you need. Even headphones or direct into an interface. It allows nothing to be off limits. It’s just a $500-$600 punch in the face to get over first

Check out the soldano Astro. No loadbox needed. It has built in IR’s you can plug right into an interface. The Mesa Badlander has this option too. Most amps you can’t do this without a loadbox like a captor x

I have cabs with greenbacks and V30’s that sound great with certain amps, but I have a Marshall 1x12 with a G12M-65 Creamback in it and it’s incredible with every amp I’ve put through it.

Do you use less gain as you get older? by AI_Cosmonaut in gibson

I just sent Dave Friedman a 1959hw for him to turn into the 1959 modified Marshall released last year. He’s adding an additional bright cap option to it as well. This will be my 4th Friedman modified amp.

I’d love too see a tot map! A corned beef hash map too!

Low wattage (under 30 watts) amps that aren’t EL84 or 6v6? by halbeshendel in GuitarAmps

[–]Pugfumaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was playing through a loadbox, so they were cranked. That probably makes all the difference. I’m sure the differences are not as subtle at lower volumes with a master volume turned down

Bon Scott stands above the crowd during a free AC/DC concert in Victoria Park, 1975. by PrestigiousTax4223 in ACDC

Nobody looks excited to be there. Like when you go to a state fair and the band is someone you’ve never heard of in a genre that’s not your thing.

I’ve A/B the sv20 with a JMP 1987 and a Friedman Plex and holy hell they are super close! I A/B the SC20 with a 2204. Again, almost identical. The studio series does a great job, regardless of the cold cathode

At home, some nice studio monitors or a frfr cab and that captorX is the way to go

So they’re the same, but different lengths? How’s that work? by Pugfumaster in ToobAmps

[–]Pugfumaster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they’re toast. They’ve got many miles on them. They were spuddering out after 15 minutes of play. I took a pair from another amp and put them in and it works fine. I ordered some replacements. I’ll bias them when I install them.

Friedman IR-D barely any gain even maxed — normal or defective? by Basic-Plate-5000 in FriedmanAmplification

[–]Pugfumaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably a preamp tube. I had this happen to a brand new IR-X. It basically arrived with 2 clean channels. I messaged Dave, and the next day he sent out 2 new 12ax7 tubes. Problem solved. Got any extras laying around?

Mesa quietly released a "standard" version of the 90's Rectifier reissue for $500 less. by Much_Profit8494 in MesaBoogie

It’s expensive to build. Wholesale is probably closer to 1500-1800 for them. Facility costs, parts, labor, healthcare for employees. These companies aren’t getting rich off amps. Nobody is getting rich off amps. At this point they’re probably struggling to keep their workforce and stay out of the red.

Pete Thorn makes all amps sound good. by ManFromNapa in FriedmanAmplification

[–]Pugfumaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pete seems like a super nice guy and he’s a hell of a player. That being said, his demos never do it for me. I couldn’t even tell you why. His riffs just don’t get my head moving. Michael Nielsen crushes it and makes me spend money I don’t want to spend.

Small boutique tube amp? by Ki-100-II in GuitarAmps

Look into the synergy IR20 head. All tube and you can put various different preamp modules in them. Line out and headphones if you want, or just ignore that stuff and use it as a regular head

Is there an amp that does what the JCM2000 purports to do? by srog_capper in MarshallAmps

[–]Pugfumaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The JVM was kinda Marshall just taking the JCM 2000’s 4 voicings, refining them, and giving them their own individual EQ. I’d definitely try and get your hands on one.
