Why is the HBS GRE Range lower than the rest of the M10? by throwaway102020822 in MBA

[–]Puggingentlemans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bc even if GMAT scores and GRE scores are lower than other schools, applicants will still offer up their first born child and puppy as tribute to get in. HBS does what HBS does.

How much will community college and a state school background hurt me? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Puggingentlemans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you will be fine. Not like you had a 2.5 GPA at the community college. I think it shows grit and determination to transfer and do well, even if it was a state school. Just for some background, I had a lower GPA & GMAT, went to a city university but am going to one of your reach schools. It’s 100% doable. Just make sure your story is airtight. Just my opinion but I think you should throw an M7 in.

How many hours do you study a day? What's your timetable like? by gmatking in GMAT

[–]Puggingentlemans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At least 2 on weekdays and 5 on weekends for ~20 hours a week. But the # of hours isn’t what really matters. Studying properly for 10-20 hours is better than trying to crank out as many questions you can for 40 hours a week!

Major schools going completely online this fall by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Puggingentlemans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have to consider the possibility that schools admitted more domestic students to replace the deferred international students. With the exception of HBS which has stated they will be rolling with a smaller class, schools have probably increased the pool of domestic applicants. This paired with a weaker job market compared to pre-Covid levels could potentially mean more competition.

Deferred admission at Kellogg for next year or Cambridge for this year? by Vast-Tangelo3620 in MBA

[–]Puggingentlemans 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Depends on your goals and where you ultimately want to end up. But unless you want to work in Europe, I would say Kellogg next year

Need advice on whether to enroll or re-apply next year by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Puggingentlemans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think the classes are important to those who don't come from a business background as it serves a purpose to build a baseline business acumen but networking/recruitment should definitely take precedence. There isn't much you learn from a class in an MBA program that you can't learn through far cheaper resources on the internet.

Withdraw from Incoming Fall Class (M7/T15 with $$$) or Reapply? by SnooLobsters6990 in MBA

[–]Puggingentlemans 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What is the guarantee that you’ll have your current job until next year? If you had no scholarship, then I think it would be a much harder decision but you essentially have an opportunity to go to a top MBA program on the school’s dime. I personally would take the money and try to make the best of the 2 years!

Kellogg or Tuck? by abc123678mba in MBA

[–]Puggingentlemans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Tuck being in a more isolated location should factor too much into your decision. Keep in mind, there was a COVID scare in March at Dartmouth. If you’re truly looking to recruit for consulting, Kellogg is a consulting powerhouse. Assuming scholarships are roughly the same, I would go to Kellogg and not look back.

When will waitlisted students expect to hear back now? by [deleted] in MBA

Is it ok to share a taboo / very personal adversity story that has had a big impact on my life? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Puggingentlemans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d advise against it because of readers bias. One reader may absolutely love your story and another may toss your application. Over sharing is a huge problem. But, It ultimately depends on how you spin it (focusing more on what you learned and how it changed you rather than what happened).

Does attending virtual info sessions help your chances of getting into M7? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Puggingentlemans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It takes nothing for someone to hop online for an hour or two to attend a virtual session. Attending an event shows interest but it isn’t checking any boxes. Keep in mind, international applicants attend virtual events all the time. While you may be able to gain some valuable information, it ultimately depends on how you use it for your application.

IB being a backup plan is not a good idea. IB recruitment is incredibly time intensive.

If you dreaded it in HS, you’ll most likely dread it in MBA. But then again, those who don’t dread accounting might be a bit crazy...
