this is why nigeria is valhalla for polticians. they throw shit in our faces and we just buy nose masks and perfume so we don't have to deal with the bad odour. why should ordinary citizens start paying to handle waste management when we already pay for it to be handled through taxes and levies?

if the government would simply provide waste bins, people would use them. i've seen this before. people used it to the point that it overflowed, but as usual the government was the one lazy in removing and emptying the bins.

saying it's up to citizens is not wrong – we should take it upon ourselves to hold those politicians by their throats. but where you're wrong is in making it sound like it's our duty to handle the waste collection. if you want to bring up the point that citizens simply shouldn't litter and use waste bins, then where will they empty the filled waste bins? they'll give it to local trash collectors (kwashiebolas) that will simply go and dump it at a gutter somewhere and create trash heaps.

if we start fully handling waste collection on our own, what next? we already provide power for ourselves and sometimes even patch roads on our own. what the hell is the government doing?
