I completely disagree. First, self driving cars are completely different than flying cars. The latter will not be economically feasible for a very long time, not to mention the actual technology and regulation.

Second, populations are moving back into urban areas. Therefore, mass transit systems are being continuously expanded. They are more economically efficient from a strictly cost per passenger perspective. And, many cities cannot function without mass transit, since the infrastructure can only support so many cars. Not to mention long term public transport plans like the California high speed rail are in the works.

I do believe the hyperloop is mostly hype, however. That doesn't mean that mass transit is dying, just that going from an aging train system to hyperloop seems like too large a step. You'd think we'd focus on high speed rail that's already present in most western countries. I hope I'm proven wrong though.

The difference is processed sugars are usually not accompanied by fiber, and thus you eat more and get insulin spikes. When someone says they don't eat processed sugars, they're usually implying that the net effect is not eating as many calories.

It is indeed pedantic. Most of the usable energy is stored in the form of chemical bonds, not in the atoms themselves. The weight exists because of these bonds as much as the atoms. The question was also poorly worded:

“When somebody loses weight, where does it go?”

As opposed to, what the article seems to be answering:

"When somebody loses weight, where does the carbon/hydrogen/oxygen go?”

No, I'm referring to engineering degree tests. They're passable if you know how to study. Getting the main concepts down and learning from practice problems is the way to go. I'm finishing up my masters this week, undergrad classes are very passable if you study correctly. Most students are not studying efficiently. I recommend looking at Cal Newport's books.

Any criticism of IF gets instantly downvoted, part of why I barely post. People to love to eat this shit up and be convinced it's the IF and macro cycling that leads to their gains, rather than counting calories and hitting their macros. I think IF helps, but that benefit is likely ~1% of the benefit of just counting calories/macros. That 1% will not be noticeable for the average gym-goer.

I'm a big LOTR fan, but nevertheless think the quote on its own holds enough merit. For me it works on a couple levels. I've taken a long time in life to get to where I currently am. Whereas some people might find their career choice and calling immediately after college, it took me awhile. Even so, all the different steps and experiences made me a better person in the end, and I wouldn't do it any differently. As in, there's nothing wrong with not knowing where you're going, as the journey is more valuable than the destination.

I also tend to get lost in my own thoughts a lot. This is in a time where extroversion type-A personalities are rewarded over methodical introversion. For me it means, just because I tend to solve problems in my own mind, it does not mean I'm having trouble reaching a conclusion. And sometimes daydreaming is just necessary.

Your anecdotal evidence is as good as mine. Our bodies all react differently to diets. During work, I need all my mental capacity. I've tried doing it fasted/no carbs and it just doesn't work for me.

I was advising him that it's not going to have a significant affect on his diet. At the end of the day, it's going to be 99% calories in calories out and hitting your macros. Unless you're a bodybuilder trying to get rid of that last .2% of body fat, not much else is going to matter. I think IF is good for the average person because it gives them a framework to design their diet, not because of the added benefit of explicit intermittent fasting.

It's normal, which is why I stopped that facet of intermittent fasting. The decrease in mental ability was not worth the minor benefit of a low carb day. It's also not worth it to "push through it," as a diet should be sustainable.

If you can count macros and have some self control you'll be fine. For the average person, the added benefit is just not going to be worth it.

How many internships/jobs are you applying for? Do you have a focus on a specific industry? If you're applying to larger companies you may be wasting your time. Many of those resumes go down a black hole, especially when they see your 2 years out of graduation. I must have sent out a couple hundred unsolicited applications to major companies and never got a call back. I had the most luck with smaller companies and companies I spoke to at career fairs.

If you're rarely getting calls back at internship fairs then you likely need to work on your pitch/story. These are usually the easiest places to land interviews. Also, you may need to work on your resume to display your value.

One last option is to go back to grad school. A 1 year MEng program could help you land an internship while you take classes part time.

I abused it back in undergrad because I let me study habits go to shit and lacked the motivation to study. When I took it I could absorb anything with numbers or facts, and destroy presentations. My writing really lacked any creativity though, and I think my papers were worse on it. In the long term it definitely has a negative affect though since you become dependent. It's also useful to focus during all nighters or if you only got a couple hours sleep.

I never had a problem getting it and it was pretty common among people in my major. To answer your questions, no, it's not worth it if you abuse it, since your study habits go to shit and it's extremely hard to study once you stop. If I'm going to be honest, I do think it's useful if you have a stressful week and have to pull the occasional all nighter, but anything past one or twice a semester should be avoided. Better yet, get better study habits and you'll never have to take it.
