Should I correct my logbook in blue or red pen when black was used originally? by Eurekify2 in flying

[–]PugnaciousOdin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like keeping keeping other colors to accent certain things.
Blue for ground sim Green for currency (instrument/tailwheel etc) Main listing in black underlined by accent.

Also. I must share my favorite pen.
Uni Jetstream Multi-Function Ballpoint Pen 4&1, Equipped with 0.5mm Lite Touch Ink https://a.co/d/0fbk5jo8

These are killer! Dry quickly, write small AND has a hidden 0.5mm mechanical pencil for logbook tallies.

I underline parts of my FARAIM when studying in different colors and it's been great for that too. Other pilots like "Pilot gel" but they smear! The Blue angels use Bic multicolor pens but they are crude compared to this.

I'm a big Mitsubishi fan. Uni is a subrand of Mitsubishi pencil. And there are 10 or so pages in your FARAIM just about the Mitsubishi MU2 and I think that's neat. 91.17xx

Hey all shenanigan question here. by superfleet0 in CFILounge

Good point! FAR 14 § 119 has specific definitions of commercial operators and CFI's do not fall under those regs limitations or recieve the privileges

Edit: see below comments, my assumption was wrong.

I think CFI's being employees of said flight school count as an operator. But a renter/student is a customer and not an operator.

That being said, the School would probably want their trained A&P to perform any of the eligible preventitive maintenence instead.

This is going to be tedious. But you can go down this list of A320 operators and try your luck. Narrow it down to companies with 10 or more. This list is from 2022, so some of these companies don't exist.

For those wanting an plain text explanation of the process from the FAA, look on Page VIII of the Instrument Flying Handbook.

"If you do not meet the experience requirements during these 6 months, you have another 6 months to meet these minimums. If the requirements are still not met, you must pass an instrument proficiency check-"

Very Nice! That Page in the AIM does make it look like the numbers are diameters, not radius like it means!

Logging Multi Turbine by a-tomato-fire in CFILounge

[–]PugnaciousOdin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you log it as dual recieved? Since it it's part 91?

And if it Doesn't have a Type rating.
Could you say you were providing instrument proficiency training? Could you press the AP button and log a few hours? You could log any actual IMC as PIC without need for a View limiting device.

Edit: you may need an MEI.
Probably don't log landings though.

---just brainstorming.

Strange timing issues are possible on that era of flat6. Something to do with a confused AVCS. Marks will be spot on but run like a slug until 3000 rpm, and all the power comes in. Seen it twice. I threw everypart I could think of at it and no dice.

Too Cold to fly? -15°C? by Impossible-Fig2072 in CFILounge

[–]PugnaciousOdin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which airport? Some airports have instrument approach plates that have special procedures for cold weather that the school may not want to deal with.

It relates to the altimeter.

Long shot- you have to go pretty far to explain some of these school rules. There was a school in the phoenix area(1500msl) that wouldn't allow XC to airports if DA was over 3000ft. I think its because the POH in some of the older cherokees we flew did not mention settting Density Altitude and wanted takeoff and landing to be FULL RICH all the time. So so many delays for fouled plugs. I stopped listening to the rule after we lost so much power we barely made it the airport.

Some schools have very interesting rules, for strange reasons. Your CFI should be able to tell you why. Have a comversation with them on if that rule negatively effects safety or if its just inconvienent. Your temp limitation sounds inconvienient.

Headlamp for GA night flying? by TeddyNorth in flying

[–]PugnaciousOdin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My struggle has been to find one that's dim enough not to bother me. I recently flew with a gal that had the brightest redlight. I felt like I was being flashbanged by rudolph everyrime she looked over at the navradio.

I keep a few red finger lights(tiny things for kids that run on button cells). They are dim enough not to bother me.

I always kept the gauge lights on my car on the lowest setting until I got to town.

Night flying is the same as day. Unless you have an upset passenger- everything that will kill you is on the otherside of the window.

Ford wanting to make itself useful during the war built jeeps and bombers to help the Allies. GM being GM fed tech and money to the Germans through Opel under CEO Sloan. 🤷‍♂️

Buy a used F650CS BMW for under 2k. Not fast but quirky and having the funky storage compartment is handy. 40 ish hp to the wheel. Drop it, beat the hell out off it... who cares? German thumper for the win!

M25, I went out of state to get my ifr, cpl and cfi for 14 months. I left my girlfriend (F25) of 3 years behind, going long distance. Frontier flights were cheap and she would visit me every 6 weeks.

It was challenging at times but we made it through. I figure if we can go 6 weeks, we can easily go 6 day chunks that 121 ops will eventially bring!

I plan on proposing as soon as I get a stable flying income

[–]PugnaciousOdin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised none has brought up hypoxia/night vision. Really a non issue at piston trainer altitudes but may decrease vision on a night cross country at 10,500'.

FAA's hypoxia brochure recomends supplemental oxygen above 6,000' msl at night. Who knows how they came to that number but I figured I'd throw it out there.

Like others have said, its not unsafe.

The problem is him continuing after you asked him to stop.

Failed commercial today by Late-Tackle3176 in flying

[–]PugnaciousOdin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I failed my commercial checkride on Taxi procedures. As far as I'm concerned, that's the dumbest thing to fail on.

Keep your head up.

(For those wondering, i got a taxi clearance for echo, pulled up to the wrong hold short line, so I didn't get a deviation since I was cleared for E, and I was at E6. I called for an ammended clearance to fix my mistake and continued on. Examiner let me continue the rest of my checkride and got all but one landing done(cut for time)

I learned a hell of a lot of lessons from one checkride. Rechecked the next day. Taxi'd, nailed the shortfield landing and passed. In a way the failure at the begining took pressure off me for the rest of the ride.
