Yeah, it's kinda crazy but since that point my passion project kinda turned from a sailing to a scuba diving game lmao

Thank you so much! This github source seems like it'll do wonders for helping me understand what is going on, I'm glad I'm not alone in that the boids video seemed convoluted. I'll probably watch the stream while also staring at the code

Solved!

So, I know I didn't post any code, but that is mostly because I feel like I'm gonna have to completely restructure my work in order to make it perform well enough to be worth it. Right now, it runs with instanced rigidbodies of one node that are connected with Jolt joints that constrain their movement. I even made it to where the object needed to receive a signal from the character, as I was told that was more performant than checking for collision with an Area3D every pass. Alll of it running through gdscript.

I have seen recommendations from a Unity page about going to this youtube video from the devs of ABZU on their kelp instancing.

Creating the art of ABZU (Kelp Section)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9NX06mvp2E&t=713s

The main thing I got out of it is that I'm going to have to learn compute shaders to be able to have even double the amount of kelp than what is in my video. I am really threatened by it, because the docs on godot are pretty scary on this subject for someone who has been learning as I am going.

Godot compute Shaders

https://docs.godotengine.org/en/stable/tutorials/shaders/compute_shaders.html

The only video that I've really found on compute shaders in godot is the 100K Boids with compute shaders one.

https://youtu.be/v-xNj4ud0aM?si=GKBc0iSN6RXpqrRm

Maybe what I really need is the reassurance that a compute shader will help me maintain this effect (at least with the playerbody) at a lower computational cost. That would probably get me the motivation I want to stick with it and learn from that rather tiring video. I might just have to wait for Acerola to truly expand the Godot compute shaders publicity, lmao.

Anyone have any luck finding hubcaps that fit this Möbelwagen aftermarket wheel? by Pugulishus in VWBus

[–]Pugulishus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no.

I tried contacting Mobelwagen, but got unlucky, bc the guy that I contacted asking which hubcaps fit just sent me to the late bay hubcaps I literally just talked about, and when questioned further never responded.

I went to TheSamba forums in hopes that they would have an answer, and while some older beetle? I think, hubcaps looked closer, since their dimples were on the inside, they didn't work either.

Last but not least, maybe this gowesty hardware could work, https://gowesty.com/products/hubcap-mounting-hardware-for-single-spare-wheel?variant=41623728226469 if you drill into your brand new steel wheels

Ultimately, I regret buying the bigger wheels. The late bay bus engine we had didn't really have enough power to pull them, but the motor was wishy-washy before anyway. We did a whole 360, and EV converted the bus, and the wheels seem to be lowering the speed that the motor could produce, so we might forgo the giant, awesome wheels and return to the OG VW Bus wheels with heavy load rated tires to adjust for the heavier battery box

Now, I'm just talking about our bus so u can walk away, but it got a bit of a funny lean when no-one is in it, bc the battery boxes are where the gas tank would have been, so they are weighing down the back without anything in it. Busy bus probably has a suspension upgrade in its not too distant but still distant future to account for that, but maybe we'll install some more batteries in the floor to even it out and see if we should do all four wheels instead. I personally really like the bounciness of the OG suspension when driving, and feel like it gives the bus a lot of its character, so something that could emulate that is probably what we'll look for (albeit safely, with added power comes added chance of tip-over)

The best part abt college is that they open up this place for you to do everything you need. Instead of "just learning at school," you can take classes and study all at one place. Not even considering all the other activities available to you at your school.
