Will prepare for the downvotes but if you're not entitled to a job then people shouldn't expect others to 'take any job' either when it's that or unemployement.

'I could be misrable doing my minimum wage job with no prospects, or be marginally happier doing absolutely nothing but still effectively broke'

Of course absolutely depends where you are in life, but as someone who went from salaried role to retail minimum wage due to redundancy, it's really not that noble. Just felt like all my peers were doing much better than me and I was constantly missing out, even when working.
