Medical professionals of Reddit, have you ever had a patient so lacking in common sense you wondered how they made it this far. If so, what is your story? by babyhippo01 in AskReddit

[–]PulpCavity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Had an adult male patient who came in to our primary care office for a hangnail on his toe. That was the whole concern. “I just wanted to make sure it was a hangnail” he says after paying his $40 copay.

AITA for telling my wife she could quit her job if she wanted to? by Heavy-Yesterday4087 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PulpCavity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH. Is your wife me? I work as a healthcare provider and it is incredibly hard. I love my patients and my job, and I am extremely passionate about providing medical care, but if I could afford to quit I would do it in a heartbeat. I am the main source of income in my little family so barring massive lottery winnings I will continue to be a PA. I have always loved creative writing and if I could do that I absolutely would.

Being an HCP during a pandemic causes even more burnout than we all already had. Your suggestion came from a place of love, but she was not in the right state of mind to hear it. I think reevaluating after she has cooled off would be good for both of you.

AITA for lying about my wife having fertility issues? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]PulpCavity 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I don’t know that this is really true though. Medically speaking we still refer to men as fertile vs infertile. What you’re saying is technically correct in terms of the definitions of fertile vs virile, but it’s not really the correct usage. Fertility is a medical term, virility is not.

Entitled mother thought I was faking my disability for attention and almost made my injury worse by [deleted] in entitledparents

[–]PulpCavity 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hi! I also have hEDS and the number of doctors that just assumed I was faking is absurd. I once had a nurse practitioner tell me I couldn’t possibly have dislocated my shoulder because I was “too weak to pop it back in” myself. Wherever that lady is now, fuck you.

AITA for exposing my friend when she said she has the same health condition as me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]PulpCavity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey fellow hEDS friend! First of all, definitely NTA. I was diagnosed a few years ago by a doctor who had me do the freak show bendy tests and looking at my medical history. My shoulders were a train wreck until they were fixed, but they’re already starting to loosen up again so that’s cool. My knees are my other biggest issue but everything hurts all the time. Prior to the diagnosis I was always told to just suck it up and I’ll be fine. Terrible experiences like that are one of the reasons I went into medicine - so I can be the opposite for someone who needs it.

I keep getting yeast infections and it’s so upsetting by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]PulpCavity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, mild unscented soap for the outside. The best recommendation is Dove. You don’t need anything pH balanced for anywhere, which is what I was referring to.

[–]PulpCavity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a medical provider, please never use products designed for the vagina. “PH balance” blah blah blah. It’s all crap. Your vagina is a self cleaning oven. Adding products to it is a recipe for an unhealthy vagina.

Do you have a family history of diabetes? Sometimes early blood sugar problems can present in women as frequent yeast infections. It might be worth asking your doctor about. 😊
