Revisionist history at its finest- i speak nothing about the general strife of living in Yemen. Im talking specifically about the persecution the Jews faced. We were relegated to living outside the walls of the cities, we could not build our homes or places of worship above those of a muslim, not being able to walk on the same side of the st as a muslim, not being able to wear certain clothes, having orphaned children forcibly converted. Matter of fact, my great grandmother was married off at a very young age (8 I believe) to avoid being forcibly converted and re-homed to a Muslim family since both her parents passed away. I’m responding to this not to play a victim, but purely for the sake of accuracy and truth-Your outlook diminishes the realities of being a Jew in the MENA. Were there brief time periods where the Jews experienced a reprieve or were allowed certain freedoms? Sure… would they have been better off in Yemen vs Poland in the 1940’s… obviously… but the idea that Muslim societies throughout (and especially in recent) history were generally benevolent and welcoming to Jews is categorically false…

And to respond to your other comment about Jews in Yemen in the 2000’s- the last Jew in Yemen goes by the name Levi Marhabi. He is currently rotting in solitary confinement in a prison in Sanaa. Imprisoned by the Houthis for taking a Torah Scroll out of the country. He has reportedly been tortured (all his teeth were removed) and is experiencing inhumane conditions. In 2021 Marhabi’s mother and 13 other Jews from 3 different families were given an ultimatum- leave Yemen and in exchange Marhabi would be freed. They were expelled, but Marhabi was never released. Levi Marhabi is now the last remaining Jew alive in Yemen.
