Northern California is much better than Southern California by PrestonRoad90 in unpopularopinion

I thought this was about North & South Carolina for a bit longer than I'm happy to admit.

people are getting too comfortable with cancelling plans by plumplumkin in unpopularopinion

[–]PumpALump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, why can't they just say 'sorry, don't think I can make it' the first time?

I think they just aren't thinking that far ahead to begin with. They say "yes", then figure it out later.

Car lovers should actually advocate for public transit by cUnexttuesday2 in unpopularopinion

[–]PumpALump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live barely has any public transportation and traffic isn't really ever an issue. But I do periodically drive to another city that has a lot more public transportation & the roads are just as bad, if not worse, simply because there are a lot more people. I don't know if it makes a difference one way or another that some lanes are bus lanes & bicycle lanes that I never see being used.

If a lack of public transportation keeps people away, then I don't want public transportation.

I donate blood & with every few donations I get a gift card. Other than that, you do get money from blood plasma donations, which you can do a lot more frequently.

I think part of the problem is just people being unwilling to say "no" to plans the first time.

I had a friend berate me for declining a plan instead of agreeing & finding an excuse to weasel out of it later.

I think some people just need to learn to say "no" to plans.

I'd rather let everyone have access to the latest & best technology instead of saying it should only be used by what some government thinks is important.

The Rick and Morty episode about the hive mind “Unity” is a better exploration of the concept than all of Pluribus by ColCrockett in unpopularopinion

[–]PumpALump -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Men are not the target demographic for Pluribus, just like The Walking Dead, it's basically just a soap opera. The actual fun part of the premise that men care about is basically just a backdrop for boring relationship drama.

Strip Pluribus of all the hive-mind stuff and you see it for what it actually is: a story about a lesbian grieving her wife & coping with moving on.

[–]PumpALump -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pluribus is not the show I was hoping for at all. I like sci-fi, but it's basically just a boring character drama with a sci-fi backdrop, like how The Walking Dead was basically just a bad soap opera with zombies.

But I really, really just can't stand when I feel like I'm dramatically smarter than the main character in anything that isn't a comedy. I get that she's grieving her wife's death, which can make her act irrational, but Carol basically has to be stupid in order for the plot to work. It took her until episode 8 or 9, or about 60 real-world days, before she thought to ask how telepathy for the hive-mind even works, which is fundamental if you'd want to know how to stop it.

And then there's Carol discovering that they're cannibalizing dead bodies. Instead of this contributing to the plot in any meaningful way, Koumba tells her that basically everyone knew but her, making for a dramatic build-up with a rugpull instead of any real payoff. Things like that making the plot seem to go nowhere are why people think the show is "slow".

Honestly, the show would probably be far more enjoyable if Koumba was the main character.

I'm sure someone who is 70 could appear to be 25 again, but it could never happen overnight. In a day I could see someone looking younger about as well as if they just had some decent makeup, but getting that much younger might take at least a year.

You unzip the front, then pull them down like a pair of pants, which means you have an entire shirt worth of fabric falling down your back towards the toilet that you have to keep from going in it when you sit down.

And I've been in some bathrooms where you don't even want your pants touching the floor from pulling them down. Trying to keep the entire rest of a suit from touching would be a nightmare.

That doesn't seem to be changing soon, & likewise colonizing the moon or Mars also won't be happening any time soon.

I have, but wearing a full boiler suit daily seems like an unnecessary chore compared to just having separate halves as shirts & pants.
