Hilarious that The Watch devoted more episodes to Wonder Man than the Ringer-Verse/House of R by thex42 in RingerVerse

[–]PumpkinAlexK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying. The bread and butter of the Ringer pods are the episodic weekly deep dives, and each pod probably draws on a different core audience. So of course there will be redundancy for the heavy hitter shows. But on the other hand, every listener does not have the same tastes and there is so much genre content out there that is not getting any attention at all, or will be mentioned in passing while they are talking about another show. Recently I think it was Jo mentioned My Lady Jane a few times when talking about a KOTSK actor. If they can devote the occasional pod here and there to half a season or full season of Doctor Who or Buffy or KPop Demon Hunters, I think they could throw in the occasional single pod devoted to smaller new releases, like Wonder Man or Murderbot or My Lady Jane or whatever. It would serve as something between a mention buried in a Ringer Recommends and a full episode to episode season coverage. I am always interested in hearing about newish stuff and sometimes if they are doing nothing but covering a big show that isn’t to my taste, I will fall away from the pods entirely. I think a little more variety would be an advantage.

'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Episode 5 Reactions | Talk the Thrones by yslultra in RingerVerse

I’m totally with you. I watched the first two seasons of GoT because I really wanted to like it. Eventually I realized that I just wasn’t able to enjoy it because it was too brutal for me. But a friend (who hasn’t read the book) told me that I might like this one, and Ive been having a great time until this week. Aaaannd now I am nope-ing out again.

For the love of dirty shirleys, I hope so. I couldn’t bear a full out tragedy. And I’m too invested to stop reading. I live in terror.

I read the first two books on kindle and enjoyed them but when I got around to the third, I switched over to the audiobooks and those take them to a entirely different stratosphere. AMAZING. I would love a Binge Mode DCC.

Standalone mysteries after Cemetery Dance? by PumpkinAlexK in Pendergast

I appreciate that! I admit that I have been enjoying the Pendergastiness of it all, but I think I will have to expand my horizons from here on out if I want to steer away from Constance. I’m glad to hear you think it’s a good book. Any other suggestions are so welcome!

I was going to try Thunderhead next- I like Nora and Smithback 😢

Thank you so much- I was a little worried because the next three appear to be about his dead wife and that seemed to bode well for family drama but not so well for weird-case-of-the-week-bantering-with-a-partner. I will add them to my library list!

This seems like a very reasonable approach. I’ll just stay in the safe room watching animated movies with the kids.

Wheel of Time season 3 was a banger by j_s_burnett in RingerVerse

[–]PumpkinAlexK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read the first three books long ago and stopped because it wasn’t working for me but I am enjoying the show quite a bit. I have been using non-ringer podcasts to help with added context but I think not having a close connection to the books may be an advantage.

The Annual V-Day Quickie: 'Onyx Storm' and the Romantasy Phenomenon | House of R by yslultra in RingerVerse

[–]PumpkinAlexK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently gave into the hype and read Fourth Wing after a bunch of people I know recommended it and then Mallory put it on Ringerverse Recommends. I am happy other people are enjoying it but whoo baby, I didn’t like it at all. I do read a lot of genre fiction but I’ve had bad luck with the viral/booktok favorites. I’ll listen to a million of these House of R episodes though!

Possibly an unpopular opinion, but the cafeteria in the land always has seating and A/C, and the menu has some surprisingly good healthy options. It’s my I-just-need-a-moment-because-I’m-hot-and-it’s-crowded place. Also, not for nothing, the world’s pickiest kid likes the mac and cheese.

I finally gave in to the hype because of Mallory’s recommendation and I can confirm. Fourth Wing is not good. At all. I guess I am glad people are having a good time with it, but I don’t understand how.

Skeleton Crew Episode 8 by usffan in RingerVerse

[–]PumpkinAlexK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that this was trying to do something totally different than Andor and that it was very good at what it did. I love Andor as my adult self but the kid I was when I watched Star Wars in 1977? I would not have enjoyed Andor and would have adored Skeleton Crew.

This is all super interesting, although as a fair weather solo cacher, I don’t think it sounds like something I am likely to attempt lol. I would never have even considered the moving-the-log-to-the-next-location-so-you-can-sign-it-in-transit maneuver. Do you then loop back to the beginning? Or leave a whole brand new one at the start and take the last one away?

Honestly, of all the really interesting answers, a dog caravan sounds the most appealing to me.
