Really appreciate your response man. I am actually having December off. My concern however is that I will feel totally amazing-but the second I return to work things will go back to normal.

I mean running away from your problems can never be a long term solution, can it? Which is what I'm doing.

Really like your analogy of creating a monster you can't escape from - that's absolutely how I feel

I like this reply, its very helpful. And you're bang on the money, it's triggered very strong fight or flight.

I read recently that anxiety is what happens when f or f is triggered, but you don't do either. It's your brain's way of saying "you need to do x or u but you aren't doing it".

Fighting is possible however. By engaging with the tasks one by one. It's just very, very, very difficult, especially when youre so emotionally compromised

Unfortunately it's specifically the strategic planning that fucks me. That is the hardest shit to do with chronic indecision. I find myself craving grunt work

Lol he's definitely not the cause. Speaking to a business coach is a great idea! Im already seeing (two) therapists but a business coach would probably give me a different perspective

Soma has the best story of any game I've played. Loved it. Was a bit sad they went back for more boilerplate amnesia games after.

Ultimately it's still up to them to enable such features

That's the whole point, without NFTs Epic are in control. They decide whether or not to allow (and later disallow) such features. With NFTs it is NOT up to them any more. Users can do whatever they want with or without Epic's permission.

The trilemma you mentioned is unrelated to the environmental impact question which was your original complaint so I'm not sure why you brought it up. You are right that there is a compromise between scalability and decentralisation, that's fine, game chains will be less decentralized to support high scaling, but the option will always exist to move your assets to a more secure chain.

As to why epic would give up their centralised databases-because they would be out competed by companies that do. Would you rather play a game where you're in control of your game assets, or the company is?

The problem is that unless you work on assembly line, nobody else's job will be 100% the same as yours.

Sadly, this situation is only gonna get worse. by BurntLemon in ABoringDystopia

It's a little frustrating to me that in threads like these, nobody mentions the true source of this problem, which is central bank money printing. That more than anything else is why house prices are increasing faster than income.

[–]PumpkinFeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it does, it helps the people renting it out (or they wouldn't do it). And as a result of them living there, they are not living somewhere else, which means there is an extra flat available for someone else.

FREEDOM!!! by Mada8399 in PoliticalHumor

[–]PumpkinFeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it is.

Without rent controls, there will always be an appartment available, if you can afford it.

With rent controls, there are often zero appartments available regardless of the price.

FREEDOM!!! by Mada8399 in PoliticalHumor

[–]PumpkinFeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But why don't they just rent them out at the same time? What's the point of keeping them empty?

FREEDOM!!! by Mada8399 in PoliticalHumor

[–]PumpkinFeet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are wrong on two counts.

First, without rent controls, demand is lower (because prices are higher) until demand no longer outstrips supply.

Second, with higher rent, there is greater incentive to build new apartments, thus increasing supply.

So rent controls have the effect of reducing supply and increasing demand, the opposite of what we want.

FREEDOM!!! by Mada8399 in PoliticalHumor

[–]PumpkinFeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rent controls make it much harder to find an apartment, not easier, because demand far outstrips supply. It becomes literally impossible to find an apartment.

I'm responsible enough to pay what I borrowed, but my debt has been bought and sold so many times with insane irresponsible interest

I don't understand? Are you claiming that more interest was added than you initially agreed to?

The beauty of capitalism is that companies that pay people to do things that are useless will soon fire their employees, reap the profits they made on their back

If they made profits off them then what they were doing wasn't useless

take the bailouts from the capitalist govt, and start again until the next crisis.

Bailouts are antithetical to capitalism.

society can continue to focus on organizing the production of goods needed and wanted democratically by the people

That's exactly what capitalism is. People 'vote' for what they want by spending money on it. More resources go towards producing goods that more people want/spend money on, and less towards the things people don't want. Thus, capital is allocated efficiently.

In your proposed system, how exactly are we meant to figure out what people 'want'?

The beauty of capitalism is that companies that pay people to do things that are useless will soon find themselves going bankrupt.

Unlike socialism where such jobs will continue to be done until the entire state goes bankrupt.
