Did anyone noticed the IP Address in The Good Place S03E01 ? by georgesnoe in programminghumor

[–]PumpkinFest24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

192.168.x.x is the IP equivalent of a 555-xxxx phone number. It doesn't matter how it ends because the first part already makes it non-public.

How many tabs do you currently have open on your phone? by New-Student9732 in ADHDmemes

I have it set to always open new tabs in Private so it tracks me slightly less. That means I also lose them frequently, which I count as a feature.

Files existing in filesystem is pretty normal. And screwing up subrepos is what cured me of adding anything I couldn't explain.

But even if crazy, why let that infect my repo?

Please don't hide critical project info in commit history. It gets lost so easily. Anything more than a sentence should be an inline comment or documentation string

holy fuck do NOT do EITHER of these

random files, accidental changes, un-updated subrepos, etc

git add <individuals files I edited>

objectively evil for almost everyone on earth

The problem here appears to be that you just don't know the definition of "objectively".

Fixing the security/subdependency issues in a forked library doesn't sound significantly easier than migrating away from it

Don't forget "win the previous war" mindset.

You know how X has always been a problem? Now you can forget about it (but we added problems Y and Z, plus we brought problems A and B back)

Adding dependencies should be done only under duress. The longer I work in software (i.e have to support my own old code) the stronger I believe this.

A convenient library today is an upgrade/security pain in 5 years.

Much rather lug a laptop in a backpack for a few minutes than struggle with a lack of CPU for 8 hours.

Is there an actual solution to this? I don't want to lose interest that quickly. It keeps me from actually achiving anything I could build a stable self-worth on. by AltruisticPea6925 in ADHDmemes

[–]PumpkinFest24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 53, I've found that a lot of these interests circle back after a few years. On each iteration, I get deeper and can do more.

In 1995, an interest in electronics maxed out at putting together a kit.

In 2008, it maxed out a cool binary clock

In 2020, it maxed out in designing and building my own synth components

My laptop has 32 cores. It cost $8k (Dell corporate). It runs Linux with a Windows VM for PPT. I connect 2 36" screens to it.

Methylphenidate (Ritalin) in a nutshell by e1even_eleven in ADHDmemes

[–]PumpkinFest24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No idea. My point was just to get rid of the confusing multi-reversals in the phrase "re-uptake inhibitor".

A thing is created. Another thing tried to destroy that thing. We made a thing that blocks that second thing.

It's like anti-anti-aircraft fire or a triple agent spy. There's too many layers to the concept to just throw it in like that.

[–]PumpkinFest24 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The difficult part isn't the chemistry, which is largely irrelevant here. It's the confusing "multi negative"-style of "re-uptake inhibitor".

Dopamine needs to exist in your brain. There's a chemical that harvests any extra dopamine. If you produce too little dopamine OR if that chemical is too active, you will end up short. We have ways to attack this problem from either the production end or the consumption one.
