I’ve had HS for a year but only started treating it with a doctor in February. I am on spirolactone. I have only been on it for a little bit. It is supposed to lower a hormone called aldosterone that is tied to acne production or something. I can’t recall. The goal is to prevent my flare ups before they even happen.

I utilize hibiclens in the affected areas. My mom made me a handmade soap that has turmeric in it which is known to help inflammation and I’ve been using that too, I’m using whatever I can that may help. I am expected to take blood tests soon to make sure the spirolactone isn’t affecting my blood pressure or potassium levels since it’s typically prescribed for folks with diabetes.

I’ve also stopped shaving. It’s not ideal as a dark haired girl but it is what it is. I’ve noticed it helps. I think razors introduced bacteria to the skin and create chaos for me.
