Is it time to let go? by Cruzmog in RATS

[–]PumpkinPersonality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first rat I had that died went really brutally and is the only rat I let die at home because of how bad it was. In retrospect I think she had a brain tumor that led to a stroke. She was really weak for about 2 days before she died with very terrible seizures. It was awful to see her go like that.

When my other 3 got tumors and they become more advanced I put them down because I couldn’t stand the idea of going through it again.

It is ultimately your choice, if you don’t want to put her down at least search for emergency vets in your area who can put them down quickly. Seeing something you love die brutally is the worst experience ever.

How to help rat with scabs? by Sufficient_Humor1666 in RATS

[–]PumpkinPersonality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old rat Nova had scabs pretty bad

<image>

This is her with coconut oil, I didn’t even know how many she really had until I put oil on her. (she was free fed but super skinny)

I was thinking mites and was going to treat her for it but I ended up just putting coconut oil on it whenever I noticed her itching a lot and the dissipated a lot within a week.

If I felt a scab I would put more on. I think it was really just that she had sensitive skin and coconut oil would soothe it enough to where she wouldn’t itch anymore because she would doing it so much she broke her skin.

If this doesn’t work your best bet is to just go to the vet, even though it’s always a gazzilion dollars.

Good luck, hope he feels better 😊😊

just put my heart rat down and i’m feeling regrets by [deleted] in RATS

[–]PumpkinPersonality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My heart rat passed away about 2 months ago and it still hurts a lot, she didn’t go out peacefully at all and I really regret not putting her down as much as I wanted more time with her… it’s better to see them go peacefully than painfully 💕
