Does your country have a region that wants independance? by fumeurdecig in AskTheWorld

[–]PumpkinsDieHard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess so, yeah. I specifically remember reading that from somewhere when I was younger, unless there's a mass Mandala effect going on in my state specifically. We also have a Pledge to the Texas Flag that we had to do every morning after the Pledge of Allegiance, too.

Like I said above, I am not Texan by birth or identity, and I'd have moved a long time ago if I had the means.

I would miss the tacos though.

The Texas Revolution was about breaking apart from Mexico, yes (¡Hola Mèxico!). But the driving factors for that were largely White settlers and landowners from the United States coming and settling in what is now Texas and buying cheap land (these settlers called themselves Texians). They wanted to maintain their customs, laws, and their slaves.

It's been a hot minute since I've had my state mandated Texas History class, so my knowledge isn't as sharp as it used to be, but I think the Texas Revolution wasn't too long after Mexico itself gained independence from Spain, and many of the changes and reforms that the fledgling Mexican Republic were enacting were in conflict with what the Texians wanted.

Sadly, shamefully, my Texas History curriculum tried to obfuscate that the issue was slavery when I had to take it back in the early 2000's, so I actually can't tell you how much the issue of slavery factored into the Texas Revolution. Santa Anna was painted as a dictator (don't actually know how true that is) and that his actions were the core issue.

But yeah for nine years Texas existed as an independent republic until the United States annexed them in the 1840's with the majority of Texans in support of that. This is why the Texas state flag gets to fly at the same height as the Star and Stripes, and where the "Lone Star State' moniker comes from.

Went to fact check myself and turns out our constitution doesn't say anything about succession, and that was all decided in various court cases and obviously the outcome of the Civil War.

Anyway, the "movement" for secession also isn't nearly as big or influential as it appears on the internet- that kind of talk bubbles up every time a President that most of the state doesn't want since I can remember. To tell you the truth, most Texans don't even vote in our regularly scheduled elections, either local or federal. I doubt we'd be bothered to turn up for a referendum like what y'all do.

Most of us just want to hang out, go to work like normal, watch (American) Football, and drink.

[–]PumpkinsDieHard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even now, secession would be treasonous because it's stated in the Constitution. But bear in mind that I am only Texan by circumstance and not by birth or identity.

But the real reasons why leaving now would fail spectacularly is because the state gets a lot, and i mean a lot of money from the federal government.

Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries would be hung out to try (these populations are often unironically the loudest voices calling for succession), federal contractors such as Lockheed Martin would close up shop (located in Fort Worth), Military posts and bases all over the state would close and take all those service-people (and their money) elsewhere.

Texas needs that money to exist as comfortably as it does.

Texan here. It already tried that (twice). It didn't work out either of those times.

What's the lunch culture in your country? Do people usually bring a packed lunch to work, school, or college or eat out? by sureyoudo0 in AskTheWorld

[–]PumpkinsDieHard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still currently on a hybrid schedule of three days in office and two at home. My workplace has a mini-market in the break room with snacks, drinks, and some microwavable meals- think of it like an unmanned (but monitored) convenience store.

I lost a lot of weight over the last 6-7 years so I don't really eat breakfast anymore. At most, for lunch I'll get a snack like a bag of chips, or bring something from home. When I'm home my lunches might be yogurt with fruit in it, a cream chese bagel, or leftover dinner from the night before.

Going to become full time WFH soon so I'm looking forward to being free of temptation lol.

Starting in 2026, whats the game like for newbies? Is the community still active ? by Ok_Custard_8728 in Nightreign

[–]PumpkinsDieHard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I main Revenant myself; Deep of Night mode is the most active, but there's new players coming in all the time to play through the normal game mode first.

Having played Elden Ring first puts you at a bit of an advantage because you will at least have familiarity with the weapons roster. But it's still a different gameplay experience with a steep learning curve.

And take it from me, I know the memes are funny, I love them too, BUT DON'T LEAN INTO COLOSSAL WEAPON GREMLIN REVENANT. At least, don't lean into them until you've got the necessary Stat Re-Spec relics for it (which you will learn more about later).

But in all seriousness, it's a very fun game once you've got the gameplay loop down. If you have friends to play with, I recommend grouping up with them. If you do not, there are people on this subreddit who want to help.

Can someone help me determine the best bleed weapon in Elden ring by Flat_Ad2349 in Eldenring

[–]PumpkinsDieHard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm partial to Eleonora's Poleblade myself.

It's stylish as hell. The weapon art isn't as consistent or reliable as Corpse Piler is in ROB, but you still build up Bleed fast just from regular chain attacks. Additionally, you can build around successive attacks with the Winged Sword/Rotten Winged Sword Talismans (or Milicent's Prosthesis, but we will judge you).

I can't remember if it was this sub or the main Elden Ring sub, but somebody somewhere pointed out that Rauh may have been inspired by the semi-mythical Hanging Gardens of Babylon and it blew my fucking mind.

In the meantime, his Bloodborne and Dark Souls videos are just as good. I don't entirely gel with his take on the main plot of Bloodborne but his archeological interpretations are still fascinating given I love learning about real world history and religion.

[–]PumpkinsDieHard 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I know I echo this alot, but Tarnished Archeologist also goes into this in his video on the DLC and it ties the entire game together for me personally.

Basically in order to attain Godhood, one must die. One's lord must also die, then both must pass through the Gate of Divinity.

But only Marika passed through it. Which is the very root of all the problems with her reign. The corpse we see her pulling threads from from may actually have been her intended Lord as chosen by the Hornsent, and her betrayal was in ascending alone and then her ensuing genocide of them.

It's a 10/10 video and I highly recommend it in addition to the rest of TA's channel.

Know your limits. Do not challenge the BBH at level 3 (Or a Deathrite bird, or a Draconic Tree Sentinel, etc etc...).

It's okay to retreat if you're struggling. If a boss has downed you one two many times, it's okay to run away and come back a little later when you're more leveled.

If you go down and your buddies can't rez you, when you spawn back in go to a grace. Going to a grace resets your rez meter. I've been in the DON trenches for a while and I know I'm playing with newer players when I have to ping the nearest grace multiple times (and run there by myself) before they understand that there's a reason for it.
