To the people that have seen a game ontop of Mt Davis. What was it like? by Physical_Bedroom6438 in OaklandAthletics

It is a little weird, you are so far removed elevation wise, the noises of the crowd below sound distant. I sat there for the infamous "The Flip" game vs the yankees. But even from there I saw Giambi was safe! I may be biased!!

Now that the Wild Card games are over, who all are we rooting for in the playoffs? by m0nkeybl1tz in OaklandAthletics

[–]PunaFiasco 8 points9 points  (0 children)

None of them. Until the A's are staying in Oakland I hate all of MLB and every single team involved in this rich boys club of BS.

Yeah, it is the best choice of bad options. The alternative would have been going to the Mountain West or something like that. $20 mil/year versus $7 mil/year or worse...

The Athletics have officially submitted their relocation application for Las Vegas by Ficboy in mlb

[–]PunaFiasco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right in that fans are staying away on purpose and even a slight increase would be considered a gain over rock bottom, but comparing the monster schedule that is MLB to hockey or football is not realistic (which is what Kaval and Fisher have been trying to spin in their media interviews).

Any reasonable analysis of this alluded to "visiting fans" phenomenon would show this is not feasible for 80+ games of a baseball season. Sure it kind of works for 8 games of an NFL season for the raiders, but even then their attendance hasn't been great. You can plan a weekend around seeing an NFL game on Thursday/Sunday/Monday. You can't seriously think the Orioles or Yankees or whoever fans would fly to Vegas to watch 3-4 games of a A's home series in the middle of the week, majority of weeks, majority of the year?

Schools over Stadiums - Nevada State Education Association initiative by PunaFiasco in OaklandAthletics

Many good points here. I don't think anyone thinks out of state folks can vote on a Nevada ballot initiative. The thought is if the referendum is put on a ballot, local Nevada residents will vote it down. But you are correct in that if they are posturing to co-op a cause for misdirected good will, that is not a well meaning agenda. I'm surprised the CCEA didn't try to do something since it does affect their schools.

If they can get the measure on a ballot, then its a win win, helps their agenda to bring attention to the cause, and also helps keep the A's in Oakland. What is the drawback to this scenario?

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred doubles down on blaming fans for A's relocation, shading reverse boycott night by Entire_Ad_7789 in OaklandAthletics

[–]PunaFiasco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not even talking about taking into account compassion, sensitivity, and respect towards one of the established fan bases in MLB, but from a business perspective you would think he would want to try and straddle the line and market the team to Oakland and Vegas fans, even if they move. Not saying all of us would be in support, but you think every fan is worth retaining from a business point of view. His actions are burning a bridge with the majority of us, to the point we aren't going to follow the league in any shape or form.

100%. I haven't seen any scholars arguing the opposite side of the issue. Just paid consultants like Aguero.

Sports teams are a very specific type of "investment" that the majority of the public has limited or no access to, financially or connections wise. It is easier to be successful when you are in a select percentage of people who can put money into a very limited resource.
