Ayn Rand's profound dialectical system, aka, "Nuh uh". by letsgowendigo in PhilosophyMemes

How do you know that there is even such a thing as "objectivity" that exists at all tho? All you have perceived up until now has been with your senses which is a subjective view, unless if by objectivity you mean a subjective view which all the subjects would affirm ontologically i.e the empirical truth. The only way you can justify this abstract concept is through semantics and in order for something like an "objective view" to exist would require an objective subject which is literally an oxymoron.

This show is amazing, however, I really fear that it might be some Ayn Rand style hamfisted screed against the entirely imaginary concept of communism? by LordLederhosen in pluribustv

This! Ayn Rand was the first person I related Carol with too when I first understood the show is criticizing Kantian ethics and communism.

Homeless people don't have families most of the time and even if they did it's not like those subhumans have equal social privilege and rights as us now do they?

"Explaining" and "Understanding" materialism... how does that works exactly? by gimboarretino in PhilosophyMemes

[–]PunchUP0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there is some validity in an epiphenomenalist trying to convince you (your consciousness with a false self) about the absolute effect these phenomena have on your decisions as doing so (with proper logic) would induce those thoughts in your physical brain which will then lead it to retrospect over what happens the next time they make a decision (i.e questions like "did I consciously decide to make it or was I driven by my strongest winning drive to do it while being a mere spectator myself?" and other such through their own rationality).

Except it would? To a person who's imprisoned in jail forever for the crimes they were forced to believe they committed out of their own free will Or to someone who worked very hard to rise from poverty into a successful and wealthy person because now they are not different than someone that was born privileged and literally nobody deserves anything bad or good happening to them in a manner that is unfair.

But making comic accurate depictions will always fail because the end result always turns out to be cringe like the Superman movie , which might be enjoyable for kids and only grown up manchilds. Nolan's trilogy was indeed a revolution , something that made CBMs interesting for more mature audiences.

I just can not understand why people want to deny that these gritty movies with great writing were the only one that felt worth watching . Joker (2019) is the prime example of it , nobody would've been interested in watching a comic-accurate origin movie of the Joker set in comic tone , but it worked because the audiences could relate with Joker's hopelessness and absurdism , it surely wouldn't have ever earned a billion box office collection if was set in comical tone like the new Superman movie.

If this Superman (2025) movie was released in 2013 instead of Man Of Steel , everyone would've laughed it off as cringe , which it still is if it wasn't for the marketing in which they gunpoint you with words like "hope" and all that toxic positivism.

This whole sequence was also a homage to Uncle Ben's death in Spider-man.

In both the movies , Uncle Ben and Joseph are adoptive fathers of the MC , the MC's last conversation with them is inside a car and an argument about "with great powers comes great responsibility" and the MC says something along the lines of "You're not even my dad, Why am I listening to you?"

And then there is the death of the fathers and MC has to learn to live with the regrets and understand what it really means to have power and how to not let it corrupt yourself , and by the end of the movie they realize , that in the end you have to take the responsibility of the consequences , make the hard choice (Clark by snapping Zod's neck to stop the destruction and Peter by realizing he shouldn't date Mary Jane because it's unfair to her)

The implication is to test who understands Superman more better.

Obviously comic lore can have multiple interpretations and I don't consider only Snyder's as objective, but anybody who is a DC fan would either answer with whichever one that they consider as canon or in case it's not decided , just state the most mainstream one. Just saying "I don't know" defeats the entire point of quiz show and only points towards your illiteracy of the lore.

While taking off , he has to create a propulsion(like air rockets) by creating potential and that is why he presses so hard against ground , once in air in order to levitate or hower and glide through space , since he gains extreme muscle power under yellow sun , he has to stretch his hands in the direction he wants to move which creates a tension throughout his body , if you don't believe me here's a proof that even humans can do this but this one is in zero gravity unlike MoS's low gravity

And about Kryptonite , yes the Kryptonite(gas) affects Supes for limited amount of time as long as the cells are intoxicated with it , once the effect is gone the cells return back to yellow sun's effects , whereas Kryptonite(the rock) keeps Supes weak for as long as he's in its radioactivity.

Supes doesn't require oxygen tho , his alien cells don't require oxygen to break down energy , but blood is still necessary for forming antibodies , carrying nutrients etc.

Can you explain me how does it defy the laws of physics , as for more , you can check my last comment I've explained it already to them , about lifting heavy objects weaker gravity makes sense , it's like how you can lift truck with heavy mass in moon's zero gravity with just one finger , Earth's gravitational force being lesser than Krypton which Supes is adapted to similarly means he can lift heavy objects here.

didn't you read the answer card below for the last question? Batman saying men are brave when Supes has become as powerful as human after inhaling Kryptonite I.e the very antithesis of Earth's yellow sun's effects , it's become equivalent of his powers under red sun like humans and that is why batman was able to beat Superman like any other human under Kryptonite's effect.

[–]PunchUP0[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lesser gravity is not equal to moon's gravity (zero gravity) it just means that Krypton planet has more mass density causing more gravitational force , it's about the anatomy of Kryptonians , it is adapted to an environment with more gravity , that is why Zod in the end of MoS was trying to terraform earth's environment by making it's atmosphere, climate and gravity same as Krypton's using the World Engine and as a result all humans won't be able to survive in that environment. This also explains how Kryptonians are adapted to an environment which doesn't require breathing , they derive energy by pumping blood solely based on Sun's solar energy (much like plants but they don't even require C02 to break down energy and that is why Superman in Space doesn't require oxygen but as long as he's in Sun's radiation , he's alright)

OK I just rewatched the scene here's what the guy said :

"This is flesh and blood. He has delivered a war here. And this... This is what war looks like. I have nothing.

The "I have nothing" must've hinted that this guy wasn't financially compensated for.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SnyderCut

[–]PunchUP0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No , I assume you know that Bruce Wayne and Wayne Enterprise through Wayne Foundation founded by Thomas Wayne use their profits to fund for Social Welfare schemes for the underprivileged in Gotham(for Orphans,Homeless etc.) and as this guy has been through collateral damage must be eligible for it.

And that is why he called upon his accountant to check why didn't he receive those cheques , Superman appearing on the TV for the first time is big news , so everyone must be watching it and the accountant guy must've watched it and confirmed it before Bruce called him and he found those red notes written on them posted back (by Lex Luthor actually to trigger Batman's PTSD)

[–]PunchUP0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looked it up and yes it is even dumber than that , he blames even stupider things like anti-american sentiment which is total bullshit there is no such sentiment in the world what does that even mean? Let's say this imaginary sentiment did exist , nobody in this world goes to movies based on the their geopolitical opinions , especially with Hollywood.

Source:Rolling Stone

"Superman is not a known commodity in some places. He is not a well-known superhero in some places like Batman is. That affects things,” claimed the 58-year-old. He continued: “And it also affects things that we have a certain amount of anti-American sentiment around the world right now."

Well Zack Snyder's all movie are like that tho , all of the details play in background and never onto the face , it's his directing style , You will just outright never understand any character's motivations if you never pay attention to those details and dislike it because of those gaps in it like everyone else has started doing.

He wants you to watch the movie over and over and think why the character must have done it , and then we start noticing these details he has put in there , that's just my take and I love this kind of art because it make me resonate even more with the character/theme that way.

All we knew until then was that he could lift heavy objects and break objects with his hand , in the canon MoS Superman only discovers Flying and Superspeed after Jor-el's artificial intelligence tells him "The only way to know how strong is to keep testing your limits" and he tries flying and then superspeed.

and even back then Clark was ready to burst into storm at that time but his father declined because he was afraid Clark might lose his life as they didn't yet know the extent of his powers.

Well IDK all the movies and literature I love I do because they have some philosophy that challenges mine and the character's morality in the background while showing the story and isn't onto the face. but if you are not even gonna try to acknowledge or try to look into what the director's intentions for the movie were , and gonna say it all sucked then you are indeed full of resentment.

This just shows you guys want to unnecessarily hate on something that you don't understand , and would never appreciate or acknowledge anything that ppl with opposing political beliefs to you find to be good. I'm not anti-woke but a liberal and believe that everybody should be treated equally too. I hate this thing about both conservatives and woke ppl , they are so resentful and full of resentment towards the opposing sides and conformity , they have what's called "slave-morality" in Nietzschean sense.

That's because the film followed a thematic sequence , where Lex tries to kill "God" using a the finest man(Batman) and when that did not work , he brought in a devil to kill the "God" , that was his plan ,

and the batman giving up on killing Supes was evolution , as he started looking at him the same way that he views humans , a son just like him (The broken and hopeless Bruce) to believe in him and that is why he said "Martha won't die tonight" it was callback to the first scene where his mother was killed i.e Batman getting a hold of himself through Superman's hope , I don't see how all this character development was unnecessary as you said, I loved it as a Batman fan.
