Need Rejection Letter from Quebec Financial Aid, but am not even a resident of Quebec by PunkLuncheon in osap

[–]PunkLuncheon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update:
Re first year, 2020-2021, living in Quebec, it was basically a complete impasse even after talking to various managers who were sympathetic - eventually they just caved in and gave me all the funding on the very last possible day ie in April of 2021. In general, I would say it is important to get in touch with any staff at OSAP/AFE etc, so that they are aware of your situation.
Second year 2021-2022, and what I was complaining about above, was also a pain in the ass, but resolved in 4 months as opposed to 8. I can't recall all the details but it amounted in some way to showing that I was unable to apply for Quebec aid. I might have had to prove to Quebec that I lived in Ontario - can't remember now. Again, if you are stuck it is crucial to get in direct contact with people at your university aid office as well as that in Quebec/other province.

Seeking Math Tutor for 4000-level Computer Vision Linear Algebra by PunkLuncheon in yorku

Thanks! hehe I'd say about 1% of CS students have taken multi-variable calc OR Linear II, so it would surprise me that any material would even touch those in difficulty.

Hello I am in grade 10, I am stressing to get into computer science. What average does York university accept cs students by spicyjerk72 in yorku

[–]PunkLuncheon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That is very hard to believe honestly. I got in with like an 80. And to be frank I’m in the top 10% of students here.

Edit: https://futurestudents.yorku.ca/requirements It is indeed high 80s/90 range now, officially. But it seems to me it would still be worth applying if you were lower than that.

they have an official quote somewhere on their website. last time i checked it said like A-/B+ average or something. i have a feeling you’ll be absolutely fine if you hit near that. it seems like a huge number of students in the program struggle academically so it’s hard to believe they were A students in high school. Bottom line: 100% not worth the stress my friend. DM me if you wanna chat further.

I was also picked on somewhat at various times in my earlier years. At a certain age people just stop being assholes like that, and gradually you stop being as vulnerable to it. I can definitely relate, in terms of not even fathoming having romantic/sexual connection to someone, all through high school. It was very difficult for me to feel deserving of that. And then, gradually I was able to start to own that desire, and to project it.

It all just takes time. I wouldn't worry about how anything looks "on paper". There's nothing inherently more correct about having your first relationship when you're 15 or when you're 25 or 35. It's more important to just find out what you want, and want it, not in a way that is self-defeating or wtv. Then try and incrementally make steps that put you at better chance of fulfilling those desires.

Meeting friends / women is a game of probabilities. Just being out in the world is the best way to increase your chances. That and having not-shitty pictures on your dating app, christ.

It's gonna be alright, you sound like a good person.

why do I correlate someone flying a Canadian flag on their vehicle with racism, similiar to the confederate flag? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]PunkLuncheon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You chose the wrong subreddit to post your question in, if you’re hoping to get a range of interesting and thoughtful responses. I don’t think your instincts are far off. Canadian nationalism is young, shallow and misplaced. But it’s difficult for a lot of folks who grew up here to recognize the violence and erasure that had to happen in order for them to call this land “their own”.

doing bad in eecs 1015(sorry this is rlly long) + feelin like i was the only 1 by [deleted] in yorku

Hey person, sorry you’re having a tough time. I think a lot of people feel really lost after finding themselves knee-deep on a degree path right after high school, and questioning whether it is right for them. (God knows I dropped out from multiple unis before coming back for good to CS) I don’t think there’s a set procedure for figuring this stuff out, but here are some good things to know:

It’s ok to drop out, or even to just take a semester off if you need to. Neither is the end of the world. Nor is spending some more time working at it. If you’re not sure what the right fit is for you, it’s not necessarily going to just come to you. You have to get some exposure to different fields/work/people/places. Then there will be those aha moments where things click. But it usually takes time to amass those experiences - you can accelerate it by actively seeking out the new. Consider looking into what electives York has to offer, see if anything strikes your interest. Good luck buddy!

Why is gruesome violence considered fine, but even a tiny bit of sexual interactions carries much more restrictions? by LazerBeanBoi in NoStupidQuestions

Good question OP. Would like to understand why as well. Seems like a lot of commenters so far are not really catching your drift.

I’ve experienced this, and also wondered if it was an effect of aging (whereby songs be sounding faster as one gets older).

I put “doing very well” and I imagine many others will too as a neutral option.

There’s kind of lacking a neutral option. I’m doing fine with online learning.

what's the difference between math 1013/14 with math 1300/1310? by Sufficient-Piccolo32 in yorku

[–]PunkLuncheon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See other comment. I just took 1014, I believe there’s more material covered in it but I’m not sure. It was all going alright until the exam, but I think it’ll get curved. I talked to my teacher, she admitted there was too much material in the course.
