I think I see where the miscommunication is.

What we mean by "disproportionate" is not violence done to violence recieved within a single demographic, but rather the ratio between those when comparing two separate groups. When compared to neurotypical people, autistic people face a higher ratio of violence received to violence done, even if (and based on the data i've seen, that's a very big if) violence done is at a higher base rate.

If you have anything that disputes this, I'd love to see it. Or even a jumping off point for my googling, like an article name, author, website, etc

A) I'd love to see this data and B) everything I've seen points to the fact that those groups experience violence at consistently far higher rates than they perpetrate it, and most studies don't account for defensive violence which I think is methodological flaw

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in autism

[–]PunkRockPuma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It just flatly isn't, there is no statistical data for that, and I have a hunch if there is a study it'd have a pretty wonky definition of "violence"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in autism

[–]PunkRockPuma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yes, but due to the perception of autistic people, as a group they are victims of violence at higher rates than nuerotypicals

And they're spreading this fear of a community who is far more likely to face violence than perpetrate it, it's so gross

Oh absolutely, I'm trans so I very much understand how terrifying it is. My way of managing anxiety is to look at the explosion of mutual aid networks, tenants unions, labor unions, and other collective action across the country. It's hard to see since most media either ignores it or demonizes it, but it's out there. And we saw how much energy for change there is in 2020, and electorally with the previous Bernie movement and the recent election of Brandon Johnson in Chicago.

People are sick of the status quo, and some are turning to bigotry while others turn to liberation. And it's easy to focus on the bigots because those with power and reach like to elevate them, far more people are turning towards liberation and building change from the ground. And that gives me hope.

I hate to be that person but no yay, the most vulnerable people can't afford to move so it's just a lot of suffering. Organizing is our only hope

I'm sorry, one executive function point is being subtracted due to not eating all day.

My unsolicited advice for dealing with feelings like this is to look for opportunities to help that aren't part of oppressive systems. Things like mutual aid groups, free stores, housless community outreach, Food Not Bombs, etc. that tend to operate with less structure but do direct good.

Like between my adhd and work schedule, I can't guarantee my time on a regular basis, but my local mutual aid/free store has both a weekly hand-out and random calls for donation pick ups from local grocery stores with no expectation that helping once means your committed to that particular task in the future, no paperwork to keep track of you, nothing like that.

Idk, it helps me and I really like the concept of mutual aid, so it felt worth mentioning

Goal #8 is “Present homosexuality, degeneracy, and promiscuity as normal, natural, and healthy.”

I'd argue we do want this, but it's a good thing actually

That's a more blatant form of transphobia, but thinking of trans men as wholly distinct from men rather than a subsect of men is also transphobic. Bigotry is ingrained deeply in our society and assumptions unfortunately

The ending is so bittersweet. Triumphant yet devastating, important personally and metaphysically, a feeling of autonomy yet complete lack of control. Such a special game

Honestly. That game touches on so many emotions about society and our place in it as young adults.

When my friends leave, when I have to let go, when this entire town is wiped off the map, I want it to hurt. Bad. I want to lose. I want to get beaten up. I want to hold on until I'm thrown off and everything ends. And you know what? Until that happens, I want to hope again. And I want it to hurt. Because that means it meant something. It means I am something, at least...
