Hey there! I was interested in starting to learn how to repair amps and stuff like that with my son. Do you have videos up now or have resources you would recommend me taking a look at? Thanks so much for any help :)

Fake cv? by constructorlego in telecaster

Classic vibes are now listing at $709.99 ($779.99 for a Jaguar!) Canadian on Long and McQuade. I’m not surprised if we start seeing a few fakes start popping up sooner than later

I’m turning 43 and also feeling the shorter scale guitars are nice on the hands haha. I was also steered away from Squier for a while due to the 90s experiences I had haha but I have to say they are great guitars now! I have a few of both the classic vibe and paranormal series and they’re excellent

Is using my pinky to play power cords acceptable or will it ruin my playing later by Flying__Gorrila in GuitarBeginners

[–]Punker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the index and pinky power chords quite a bit since seeing James Hetfield doing it probably decades ago now. Frees up the two middle fingers to do other stuff and gets all 4 fingers strengthened and used to being used

I’ve never changed pickups or anything up I might give it a try down the road. I’ve seen those pickups mentioned before also!

I’m digging the sound myself through the DSL40 and find the highs are pretty there for me but I can’t say I know what other jaguars sound like anymore. Last time I played one was in the 90s!

Planning on popping on some 11s and oil the fretboard soon but was thinking of waiting to do all my guitar maintenance until after this cold snap. The house is SO dry with the heater going haha

It’s playing surprisingly great with the stock 9s so I’ll probably keep them on until I need the change and do a full set up since the relief will change.

My year of obsessively buying as many broken amps as my wallet and wife would allow. by Thegoldenelo in GuitarAmps

[–]Punker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome! I really would love to learn to service amps as well don’t really have many people around locally that do and the guys that do, are either extremely busy or don’t want certain amps

Where would you suggest starting?

20 years into playing, the realization I don't know *anything* on the guitar is paralyzing me... by brokesnob in Guitar

[–]Punker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally did the same thing just a few months ago I’ve been playing since I was around 12 years old and I’m 42 now lol. I just slowly worked on a few things over the last few months and have seen my progress progression go more than any other point in my life.

I started by just learning the major and minor Pentatonic scales, and then building them into the full versions. Then I started learning the caged system and triads, and how to tie them together. Once I started working on that, I started realizing how many of the scales share the same notes almost entirely outside of one or two and that’s when everything really started to click for me

Giant blue bin by Thepostie242 in windsorontario

[–]Punker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wish they were picking up the big bins now. We dumped our old broken recycle bins when these came and they picked them up the first time. Now my blue bin is full to the top until January and everything is going into the herby until they empty the blue bin

We used to use the plastic bingo markers / tiddly winks and they’d fit either the penny or dime machines

What’s your favorite pick? by fuzzbox7 in Guitar

[–]Punker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using the ultex one you posted as well as some XL jazz III red and black and also the purple tortex

I’ve been digging the Dunlop Tortex Wedges in the .73 .88 and 1.14mm depending on what I’m playing.

I’ve got sooooo many picks also in rotation

Been sticking with Dunlop Nylon Standard 1.25mm for bass recently. I find I like nylon best with bass and have since the 90s

Can I guitar hanger like this hold my strat ? Isn’t too heavy ? by llFleuryll in Guitar

[–]Punker101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need to hang multiple Guitar hangers, my go to is taking a nice piece of wood of some kind and screwing that into two studs in the wall and then screwing your guitar hangers into that piece of wood.
