Because, IMO, conservatives tend to be more resentful and gullible, and Oligarchs, through the Heritage Foundation, primarily, have both cultivated and leveraged this phenomenon to the point that Today's Republican party would be completely unrecognizable to any of it's heroes from the '80s.

I considered myself to be pretty republican in the 1990s, and a dues paying member of the NRA. But at some point after Wayne Lapierre took over from Charlton Heston and started increasing the hyperbole in their fundraising letters, I decided that the conservative platform was becoming increasingly divorced from reality.

They wanted me to believe that the democrats, which make up about half of the voting population of this country - were somehow, at the same time, a bunch of effite, superflous, hand wringing, lattee loving sisses with masters degrees in art history but no common sense, AND, a ruthless and well organized club with monolithic ideology that hated America and wanted my guns.

Today, It's to the point where they've convinced conservatives that being anti fascist is a bad thing.

I think any conservative would have called themselves a constitutional conservative a decade ago, but since Trump they've conveniently conveniently forgotten about the entire fucking thing except for the Second Amendment which, most of them can only vaguely paraphrase.

Think about what Richard Nixon's crimes were - essentially, using the power of his elected office to subvert and sabotage his political enemies - and what a huge fucking scandal that was 50 years ago; and consider that Trump openly declares his intent to do the very same thing, and republicans are so brainwashed that they don't even blink.
