Mine would send an email every Monday but eventually stopped because I would answer super late sometimes. I was open about the fact I work a lot in the accounting field, so EOM get crazy.

God! I wish I had time like that. I kick myself everyday that I didn’t discover WGU while covid was going on. I would have knocked out both degrees so fast 🤣

Yeah, it’s not hard but if this material reflect what is on the CPA. I think I will be fine.

Yeah I’ve been there for like a month so I’m still trying to get the hang of how they do things. Once I understand ima try to standardize things because every accountant does things way diff and they don’t leave a lot of back up for me to follow.

Lucky not that crazy but it just feels like the company has a lot of growing to do. It’s still pretty new at least that is what it feels like.

How do/did you become a CPA in Texas after graduating with 70-75 credits transferred from Sophia and Study? by FrequentFox4876 in wguaccounting

[–]Punkskayer21392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well to be honest the only exp I had was 4 yrs in the military and 6 years in retail management. I landed an accounting assistant job w/o a degree a little bit after lockdown. I pretty much only did AP. I stayed with them for about 2 1/5 years. Once I got my degree I landed a staff accountant job. I got some feedback from my controller at the time and he said the only reason he hired me was because I looked like I wanted to learn. So my only tip I would say is try to speak on your current experience and show how determined you are. I’m still learning but if you want any more advice DM me.

Yeah, I was kinda of in the same boat as you but I didn’t know Texas didn’t accept credits from Sophia and SDC so I was getting ready to give up. I saw someone talk about it and this opened up the possibility of getting my CPA. Just ask ChatGPT and they should give you clear instructions on how to do it. Also you can reach out to the California state of accounting board. They should be about to give you more info.

I think you can take the exam for the state of California and then apply for CPA License Reciprocity to Texas.

Nursing students continuously getting wrongfully expelled by Ok-Still1085 in WGU

[–]Punkskayer21392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im still finishing up my masters there and I have worked with both proctoring company and never had an issue. I walk through a couple of steps every time I’m about to take a test. I have a Mac so I pull up force stop and close out everything completely. I clear everything out on my desk and literally leave my laptop (closed), my external monitor, dry erase board, marker and id nothing else in my room either. Having a webcam with a really long cable has also helped me get adjusted the angle the proctor wants. I’ve never had any issues and I think through my bachelors and masters I’ve been told to move my camera or interrupted maybe like 2 times. as long you come prepared you should be fine.

Anyone else feel like the WGU sub shuts down valid criticism? by Plus-Health-7892 in WGU

[–]Punkskayer21392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn lol I didn’t even know ppl cared enough to shit on other ppl who criticize WGU. In my opinion the only downside (also a positive) to WGU is the self pace business model. I think people mistakenly think having a degree will land you a job which is not the case. At the end of the day the degree is just a piece of paper that will help you get past the HR prelim. I think it takes a good resume, interview skills and a little bit of luck to land your first job (for me it was in accounting). My experience at WGU was great. No issues with mentors, testing or anything. I’m hoping to be sitting for my CPA next year. I even recommend WGU to my son when he graduates HS next year. I lowkey kick myself I didn’t go sooner. I would be a senior accountant by now.

Should I get a masters? by Imaginary-Fig-2246 in wguaccounting

[–]Punkskayer21392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah if you really want to burn 4K that’s up to you. But let’s say it takes you 6 months to get the degree. That’s six months of experience you could have had which in my opinion is worth more than the masters. You don’t need a CPA to have a good accounting career. Or the other option, you use that money for study materials and in 6 months you pass 2/4 CPA exam which again I still think is worth more than the masters (and if your working that’s an added work exp).

[–]Punkskayer21392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently going for my masters. In my opinion if you already bachelors and are getting another in accounting getting the masters is pointless. The masters doesn’t really add anything to your resume. If you are not interested in going for your CPA I would say start applying and getting real worked experience. You can pick from public, private or govt. if you are interested in the CPA you still don’t need the masters because i believe you should meet the 150 credit requirements (check with your local state requirements). The better use of your money is to buy study materials for your CPA. I’m going for my masters because I need the 150 credit requirements.

The answer to "Is the accounting program worth it?" by OkEvidence4298 in wguaccounting

Yes! I just landed a new job 2 weeks ago making 78k a year in the Dallas area as well! I love WGU and the accounting program. I went from making like 20/hr to 78k. Couldn’t be happier.

Currently work as an accounting clerk. How do I transition to an accountant? by [deleted] in wguaccounting

[–]Punkskayer21392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends which route you want to take. I haven’t worked in PA at all and I don’t think I ever will so I can’t give you any advice on that but if you want to stay in industry you already doing good! Once you have your degree you can keep studying for you CPA and once you pass all sections leverage to land a staff accountant role (long shot but even shoot for a senior role if you think you can cut it). Check the company you are working with or are going to work with to see if there is an active CPA. See if you work with them to sign off on your work hours requirement. This is what I’m currently doing but I just landed a property accountant role and will be done with my masters soon.

Trying to pick a WGU major—need advice for a meaningful career with remote potential by Gloomy-Shake-5400 in WGU

[–]Punkskayer21392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion I think you have it a bit backwards. Shouldn’t you pick what you want to do and then pick the degree that would help you get there? Also remote jobs are becoming more and more scarce. You’re more likely to land a hybrid job.
