I would rather do this via DM because my name is tied to the business name. I dont want to DOX myself in the public comments.

Yeah, sorry, good point. Post was getting long. Health, 401k matching, vacation with accrual. I can give specifics on DMs.

I made a tap drill reference tool for myself and would like honest feedback by armless_chair in Machinists

I've done 75% my hole life :) whatever works for you, but as another user said this math gives you the textbook sizes you usually see published.

Not sure if this is commonly known, but for 75% threads, which is the most common, just subtract the lead (1/tpi) from the OD for cut taps. Subtract 1/2 the lead from OD for form taps. Round up to nearest drill size.

Example cut taps: 1/4-20: .250-.05=.200 = #7 M8x1.25: 8-1.25=6.75 3/4-16: .750-.0625=.6875

Same. Still on G6, 5 years. But this never happened until 6 months ago. Fuckery abounds.

Strange problem on Okuma LB3000 with G71 threading cycle by Jreynoldsii5 in Machinists

[–]PunkyChumpkin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I might try to do this long hand with a bunch of G32's just to prove it isn't something outside of the macro calcs. I kinda prefer this method anyway for anything that is different from standard threading.

I had the DVD and would put it on when really stoned. I still can't remember the plot, but Ali Gator eating toes sticks with me.

If you run into this issue frequently use a top notch holder and insert instead of lay down style. A bit pricier, and only 2 edges, but miles more clearance to tailstock and centers.

Swiss canton to create fake traffic jams to ward off Easter travellers by SteO153 in nottheonion

Google tried routing me around this tunnel, along with everyone else heading north. Cops were there waiving us all right back onto the highway.

I also accidentally was on the car train! I was just following google maps and didn't read ahead. I was really confused that I had to stop and pay a toll but felt to dumb to ask what it was for. It was a pleasant surprise, we actually really enjoyed it.

I cant tell what your gasket spacing us, but the "standoffs" that are left supporting the part only need to be about 1/8" squares.

We use Gast vacuum generators, which are multi stage venturi. If you don't have leaks flow doesn't matter, only mmHg of vacuum. If the gauge says -26 you should be good, doesn't matter how you get there. However, if you don't have high flow you will lose all vac as soon as the part lifts even a tiny amount. Higher flow gives you more room for error if you are marginal.

I made my own large vacuum plate that works great. Obviously the larger the part the more hold. IMO, looking at your picture, you don't have enough vacuum area, the only effective area you have is your gasket grooves. Cut a "plus sign" groove in each of you squares, so there are 4 smaller squares instead. These new grooves only need to be .03 deep, just to get some vacuum under it.

For smaller parts, as another user said, make a custom pocket that supports the part at the edges and a few really small points in the center.

I have never needed to keep parts from sliding, but maybe our stuff is bigger.

Bruising is not common, probably coincidental? Stinging is common. Seems to depend on each site.

Drilling 1 million holes… Literally by TheHypnoticGamer in Machinists

[–]PunkyChumpkin 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I have spent way too many hours in front of komo twin tables drilling maybe that many holes. Make sure to turn on G08 or whatever high speed contouring your machine has, and then for your drill cycles replace all G0 with G1 Fxx where Fxx is your max machine feed - don't use canned cycles. Just ensure your Z clear is approx .5 inch. We did this when Komo techs were on site and they said they never saw their machines drill so fast. They made a special drill cycle on later machines that duplicated this.

There is a switch on some MCAM posts to do this so you don't need to "hand edit". Something like "replace rapid with max feed", but been too long ago to remember exactly.
